Our fearless President and CEO, Kimberly J. Becker has announced her retirement after eight impactful years at the Airport Authority and a 40-year career in aviation. Her steady leadership during this exciting era of change at the Authority will be sorely missed by all! The Airport Authority Board of Directors will initiate a global search for Ms. Becker’s successor. She will remain with the organization through March 18, 2026, to support a smooth transition. https://bit.ly/3J8G2To

The legislation that created the Airport Authority mandates three main responsibilities: - Operate San Diego International Airport - Plan for the future air transportation needs of the region - Serve as the region’s Airport Land Use Commission and ensure the adoption of land use plans that protect public health and safety surrounding all 16 of the county’s airports. How is the Airport Authority leveraging Business Intelligence in today’s data-driven workplace? Just ask Diana Coffman, Valerie Zamora, and Maggie Wilson from our BI Department. Together, they form part of a new focus at the Airport Authority to use raw data to make our business processes smarter. Each focuses on a different stage of the Business Intelligence process: First is Maggie, who studied civil engineering and worked in startups and the federal government as a data scientist. At the Authority, she is the data architect – think of her in the warehouse, structuring the initial product. In the middle is Diana, doing quality control, making sure you can trust the data. Diana’s background is in mechanical engineering, and she began her journey in quality and data analysis in the automotive industry before joining the Airport Authority. She says she decided to focus on data quality because she saw how important accurate data is for improving processes and making informed decisions. Next is Valerie, who studied international economics and worked in higher education before the Airport Authority. As the finishing step in the BI process, she works with stakeholders to address their concerns and make the final product user-friendly and visually appealing. Ultimately, they work together to connect the dots within the bigger puzzle. For the Airport Authority, this could mean analyzing data for parking revenue, POS systems for airport concessions, passenger information for air service development, or streamlining processes for our many other departments. This is no easy task. To do this kind of work, they say you need to like using both parts of your brain – doing math, and finding solutions, but also like working with people and being curious about how business functions. What’s remarkable is that in a sector where women aren’t common, the Airport Authority counts three of them on our BI team! (From left to right: Diana Coffman, Maggie Wilson, Valerie Zamora)

San Diego International Airport Operating Normally During Government Shutdown. SAN continues to operate normally, and essential federal aviation personnel — including air traffic controllers, FAA operations, and related support staff — are anticipated to remain on duty. All airport-controlled functions such as parking, concessions, customer service, and public safety remain fully operational. However, checkpoint wait times and flight schedules depend on the operations of our federal and airline partners, and delays may occur if travel volumes grow or staffing constraints intensify. Prepare: ✅ Check your flight status before coming to the airport ✅ Allow extra time for TSA/security screening We continue to coordinate closely with our federal partners and are thankful for their service during this time. Updates will be shared through our website SAN.org and social media if conditions change.

Before its demolition, our Planning, Noise & Environment Department donated hundreds of items from the old T1 to local non-profits that would’ve otherwise ended up in a landfill. Months of pre-planning by Authority employees Paula Morreale and Owen Kerslake made this possible! A list of available items was distributed to a variety of organizations, including the San Diego Foundation, LEAD San Diego, and the North San Diego Business Chamber, who work with over 2,000 non-profits. Over the course of four days, 13 non-profit groups visited OT1 to collect their items, and with the help of Paula and Owen's maps, it was quite literally like a treasure hunt! #sandiegoairport #sustainability #reuse #recycle
