From childhood observations to shaping digital interactions, my journey into user experience is all about bridging the gap between customer needs and business goals by improving digital experiences. When you are in a field like User Experience that is relatively unknown and doesn't have a singular path, it's can be challenging to get information to make informed decisions about your career. That's why I started the UX Census (RVA) Survey in 2019. Living in the Richmond, VA area, there wasn't information about who, where or how UX was practiced locally. While there have been some improvements, the annual UX Census (RVA) Survey report is unique in that it provides a comprehensive look at the UX landscape in the Richmond, VA area from skillsets and tools to demographics to how current events are affecting work/employment and more! The 2025 UX Census (RVA) Survey starts this Wednesday, September 17, 2025! If you are in a UX roles, seeking a UX role or studying to enter the UX field, you should participate. • Like many UXers, I didn't start my career in UX. And, when I wanted to enter the User Experience field, it was like a tangle of colorful wires. While a fair amount was written, there were a lot of unknowns.

How do people enter the UX field?
What are must have skills?
 What industries hire UX people?
What are the career paths?
How is UX practiced in Richmond?

It took a few years, but I created the UX Census (RVA) Survey in 2019 to help answer those questions and share the answers with others.

Join me on February 10 (6 - 7 pm) at the Libbie Mill Library as I discuss the central theme of the book, 'Today is the Perfect Day to Improve Customer Experiences!': how technology meant to streamline customer transactions exacerbates customer experience problems and companies often aren’t even aware of the cascading costs. There will be a hands-on learning activity that is part of a new training program focused on improving customer experiences. Signed copies of the book will be available. RSVP Link (in the first comment) As a lifelong library lover (Yes, all three L's!), I am excited to be part of Henrico Public Library's Community Author Showcase and have my book included in the library's collection.

Wow! Five years ago today, I presented my poster about the "3Q Do No Harm Framework" at the UXDC Conference. I met some great people at the conference including Jacqui Olkin Carol J. Smith Sarah Coloma Maybe I need to dust off my poster and go on tour again because harmful products are still released with little to no consideration or mitigation of harm especially if they can put an AI sticker on it.🤔🙄😔 #ux #technology #donoharm #productdesign #conference #responsibletech
