About us

At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

  • For decades, the Bureau of Land Management put drilling and mining ahead of conservation on our public lands. Thanks to thousands of advocates, the 2024 Public Lands Rule finally made protecting nature, wildlife, and climate a priority too. 🌎 Now, the Trump Administration wants to eliminate it and hand our lands to corporate polluters. Speak up by November 10 to stop this giveaway! ✊ sc.org/LandsRule

  • “Donald Trump believes the Constitution does not apply to him and his anti-American administration. Today, he will once again hear from millions across the country peacefully declaring America has no kings. The Sierra Club proudly advocates for all Americans’ right to access our public lands, to clean air and water, to affordable and reliable energy, and to safe and healthy communities – we will not stop now. While this administration is attempting an illegal power grab intended to silence anyone who exercises their Constitutional right to speak out and organize to build a better future, we are joining together to say it will not work. Trump is using fear tactics and intimidation to suppress criticism to prioritize the interests of a corrupt and powerful few. They think this will shut us up, but they could not be more wrong.” -Sierra Club Executive Director, Loren Blackford

  • The DOE just axed 321 clean energy and manufacturing projects — claiming to “save” $7.56B (or $5.8B when you look at the real data). Trump’s DOE didn’t spread the pain evenly: projects in Democratic districts were hit 4x harder by total funding. We’ve pulled together the cancellations into a visualization that illustrates just how rough these cuts are going to be for nascent industries - and well established ones too. We took the reported list of awards, and pulled up their records (although as of this writing, the records from the first tranche of projects have already been expunged from USAspending). 🔗 https://bit.ly/4qhrbXr

  • 🚨 New reporting from The Washington Post reveals the Trump administration is offering “white glove, concierge” service to fossil fuel executives, helping them dodge environmental and safety reviews. At the same time, Trump is blocking affordable clean energy like wind and solar under the guise of a fake “energy emergency.” Sierra Club’s Mahyar Sorour put it best: “The Trump administration is rolling out the red carpet for the polluters and tearing down any semblance of guardrails to protect people and keep energy affordable.” Read more 🔗 https://bit.ly/4hmtPqP

The DOE is cutting $15.5 billion in critical energy infrastructure projects across the US, including grants to retool auto factories, build battery supply chains, make industries more efficient, and implement next gen grids in congested areas. The projects are all mapped out here: https://lnkd.in/dAHSzUH5 The first round of cuts targeted Democratic districts 4:1 - and many of those projects have already been wiped. The next round of cuts are coming for Republican districts, including massive projects for EVs, lithium processing, hydrogen production, and chemical processing. Whichever way you put it, this is bad news for American businesses, jobs, climate, and local communities. Blog here: https://lnkd.in/gsewv6bi

  • Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the deep-rooted connections between community, service, and the land. For Nottoway woman and Sierra Club leader Beth Roach, being in good relationship with all elements of creation means living conscientiously, with gratitude and protection for the world around us. One of her favorite ways to embrace these values is through outings—like kayaking trips led by Indigenous people in places where the land, water, and community come together in harmony. Beth leads trips on the Nottoway River, highlighting the environmental work of her community, the Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia, and partnering with the Great Coharie River Initiative of the Coharie Indian Tribe of North Carolina for a nine-mile paddle through the Black River Refuge, home to the 2,600+ year-old bald cypress trees of Three Sisters Swamp—the fifth oldest living tree in the world!. These outings transcend recreation. They’re about connection—linking people to the stories, relationships, and stewardship that Indigenous peoples have carried for generations. As Beth reminds us, “Policy work and advocacy are essential, but so is bringing people out on the water to see firsthand what we’re protecting—building understanding and relationships that sustain our land, water, and communities for generations to come.” We are honored to listen, learn, and be lead by Beth, and all of our indigenous staff, volunteers, and partners as we explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth together.

  • The Trump administration wants to eliminate "conservation" as a use of our public lands — giving oil, gas, and mining companies free rein and taking away access from the public and from wildlife! The Public Lands Rule protects nature, wildlife, and cultural sites across 245 million acres. We worked hard to win it, and we’re not backing down now. 👉 Take action: sc.org/LandsRule

  • Trump and congressional Republicans have shut the government down. Our public lands haven't been spared from its effects. While many areas of national public lands remain accessible by the public, only skeleton crews are keeping the lights on: visitor centers may be closed, rangers and other support staff may not be present, and even emergency services may be limited. How is the shutdown affecting your favorite public lands site? We want to hear from you! Fill out our questionnaire and help us urge our leaders to protect our national parks and public lands, not use them as political pawns. 🔗 sc.org/Shutdown2025
