“Justice is the infrastructure that allows humanity to flourish.” — Shawn White
It’s #LATechWeek, and I started the day with a Slauson & Co. hosted breakfast at Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen in #SouthLA — a gathering of #founders, #investors, and #community voices that brings the tech ecosystem directly into the neighborhoods too often left out of it.
Each “Coffee on Slauson” conversation puts justice-as-infrastructure thinking into action. It reminds us that opportunity shouldn’t depend on zip code or proximity to power.
Far too often, we treat justice like a charitable act — a donation, a favor, a one-time grant — instead of the foundation we must build to expand possibility and uncover the best ideas, especially from founders and communities long overlooked by traditional investment networks.
As someone who’s worked across finance, family offices, nonprofits, law, philanthropy, and policy — I’ve seen that we must root for access and justice, not just generosity.
My call to tech and #investment leaders:
Audit your models. Ask where you’re relying too heavily on established networks — and where you could open space for new voices, new founders, and new kinds of value.
Because inclusive investment isn’t charity, it’s good infrastructure — and it’s how we all flourish. Thanks to the sponsors Slauson & Co | Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP | Pilot.com | SVB
