We are excited to announce that our work advancing the Milwaukee Public Schools' Green and Healthy Schools Project for Cohort 6 schools received a 2025 Milwaukee Mayor's Design Award. Bestowed in the name of Mayor Cavalier Johnson, this award recognizes design excellence in projects that add value to their neighborhoods and contribute to enhancing the urban fabric and character of their surroundings. SmithGroup partnered with the school system, local agencies and nonprofits to replace asphalt covered schoolyards with greener, healthier spaces. The work encompassed five sites across the city and included adding green infrastructure and bioswales, native plantings and trees, outdoor classrooms and improved recreational facilities and arts opportunities.
