This Memorial Day we want to take time to remember the men and women from Camp Fannin who gave their lives for our freedom. Camp Fannin was an Army infantry training center in Tyler, Texas, used to train military recruits before going into war in World War II. Fred Farris trained at Camp Fannin starting in April 1944 before being deployed overseas. Farris’ wife Louise received a letter from a Dutch woman named Mia Geilen, saying, “I adopted your husband’s grave in March 1945. It is a great honor for us that we are able to look after the grave of your dear husband who gave his life to free us…He gave his life for us Holland people who lived under the hated oppressors for years.” Read more stories from Camp Fannin’s roll of honor at https://lnkd.in/g-JAW73B. Southside Bank was pleased to receive the Cornerstone Award from the Texas Bankers Association this month. The Cornerstone Awards recognize outstanding community service projects and partnerships led by banks that strengthen the communities they serve. Southside was recognized for this award because of our annual internal Chili Cook-off, led by Reaghan Korkmas and Tonya Dean. Our Chilli Cook-off raises funds for Blue Santa, a non-profit where children are paired with a police officer to shop for anything they want within their allotted budget. Great work Reaghan and Tonya! Member FDIC

Meet our team member Melissa McFarlin! Melissa McFarlin has been with Southside for 22 years and directly assists our Chief Business Development Officer and one of our East Texas Commercial Relationship Managers with various administrative and lending tasks. Melissa shares, "I started working at Southside right out of high school and have had the privilege to work and interact with various departments and people over the years. What I thought would be just a part-time job through college developed into an incredible opportunity for growth in more ways than one. I have enjoyed learning different aspects of banking, but it’s the people who have impacted my life the most. I am thankful for these relationships and to be a part of such an amazing company that values community with others." We want to thank Melissa and all our administrative professionals for their hard work and contributions to Southside! #AdministrativeProfessionalsDay

Texas holds a prominent position in the scrap metal recycling industry, ranking second in the United States for number of scrap recycling facilities. Recycling scrap metals offers substantial environmental advantages by conserving natural resources and reducing energy consumption. Recently, we financed scrap metal equipment in Houston, Texas and are grateful for all the ways that this industry contributes to our great state.
