Thank you, Cape Gazette for helping us tell our community impact story, as we look to establish and expand our Cottage Communities statewide - All Housed, Vibrant Lives! We hold that housing is a human right as sacrosanct. Springboard provides disadvantaged Delawareans (at low or no cost) interim shelter or permanent housing solutions, food security and in partnership with other agencies: healthcare, wrap around services, plus new educational and/or employment opportunities empowering people to cultivate self-sufficiency and communities to thrive. Thank you, Delaware Public Media for helping us tell our community impact story, as we eye expansion into Kent and New Castle Counties. The good news? Low Barrier Navigation Centers (LBNC's) - Housing + Services) - work. It makes sound economic sense and improves public health outcomes. This is not just a moral imperative. It’s also smart economics. Housing initiatives lower costs for police and EMS, boost property values, strengthen local businesses, and expand the workforce. One study found that providing supportive housing cut emergency room visits by 61% and hospitalizations by 77%, reducing healthcare costs by nearly 60%. Chronic homelessness costs taxpayers about $35,000 per person each year in emergency and justice expenses. At Springboard Delaware, we see the lives behind the statistics. John, once living outside, now says: “When I look back on where I was—uncertain, unseen, and unheard—and compare it to where I am now, safely housed and building a future, I feel nothing but gratitude.” Everyone benefits when no one is left outside.
