About us

Since opening our doors in 1950, St. Francis Hospital has established a reputation for providing high quality, compassionate care. Our associates strive each day to provide the best care in the Chattahoochee Valley, which includes west Georgia and east Alabama. With 376 beds, more than 2,500 associates, and 300+ physicians on the medical staff, we offer a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency room services, including the only open-heart surgery program in the region. And to ensure that we always offer our patients unsurpassed care, we continue to grow and expand. In 2013, we completed our largest expansion in history, opening two new patient towers, featuring the St. Francis Heart Hospital and the St. Francis Sue Marie Turner Women’s Hospital. In 2016, our affiliation with The Emory Clinic’s Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery fueled an expansion of cardiac services. From cardiac care, orthopaedics, behavioral health programs and emergency services to women’s services and rehabilitation, we have highly trained professionals and the latest technology to help you regain and maintain your health. Some of the national recognition we’ve received includes six disease-specific certifications from The Joint Commission: • Advanced Primary Stroke care • Acute Coronary Syndrome care - First in state of Georgia • Total Hip Replacement care • Total Knee Replacement care • Advanced Inpatient Diabetes care • Perinatal Care Certification - First in state of Georgia St. Francis has been a part of this community for almost three generations. But from our beginnings to our blueprint for the future, St. Francis has always – and will always – fulfill our mission to offer safe, compassionate care to you and your family. • The DAISY Award recognizes the extraordinary compassion and care nurses provide every day. Congrats to our latest DAISY Award recipient, CVICU’s Sam Espinoza, RN, an exceptional colleague who cares for some of our most critically ill patients. Espinoza was nominated by a thankful family member, whose husband was in her care. An excerpt from the nomination: “On Feb. 11 this year, my husband had open-heart surgery. Following the surgery, he was sent to the Cardiovascular ICU to recover, and Sam was the nurse who first worked with him. She jumped into action, immediately taking care of his medical needs and comforting him as he began what turned out to be a very challenging journey of recovery ... Unfortunately, my husband had some major setbacks during his stay in CVICU, but we never gave up hope, and neither did Sam. “She sincerely wanted to see him get better, cheering him on as he struggled with physical therapy, speech, lack of appetite, among many other things … I will be eternally grateful to her for the love and kindness she has shown to all of us.” Would you like to nominate a deserving nurse? • As a busy mom in her 40s, Jennifer Flournoy's life is busy and full – raising kids, navigating college visits and running from one extracurricular event to another. In March 2025, she got news nobody wants to hear, a diagnosis of breast cancer. Jennifer was diagnosed with Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma (ILC), a cancer can be difficult to detect. Working with the St. Francis Center for Breast Health and St. Francis Center for Surgical Care, Jennifer chose a treatment plan close to home and her family support system. She believes early detection is the best protection: “I am deeply grateful for my care team at St. Francis for their vigilance, education and compassion. I thank God for them every day. They didn’t just find the cancer – they saved my life.” Learn more by visiting https://lnkd.in/eFcJMghp

  • Our own Ashley Williams, a certified medical assistant at OBGYN Associates, joined breast surgeon James Majors, M.D., on WTVM News Leader 9 Wellness Wednesday this morning to discuss how finding her breast cancer in an early stage allowed for a successful treatment plan. With a family history of breast cancer, Williams did not hesitate to visit the St. Francis Center for Breast Health upon guidance from her trusted OB/GYN. At the young age of 33, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and has fought with our experienced team to beat it. https://lnkd.in/eGzig-Vp

  • The DAISY Award recognizes the extraordinary compassion and care nurses provide every day. Congrats to our latest DAISY Award recipient, Women’s Services Loukia Sanville, RN, an exceptional colleague who helps new moms on our Labor & Delivery team. Sanville was nominated by a grateful first-time mother who says she helped her through the nerves of the labor process. An excerpt from the nomination: "I had gone in at 40 weeks and three days pregnant for my induction as a first-time mom. Loukia immediately made me feel more than comfortable and calmed my nerves. Not only was she kind and caring, but I could really tell she loves what she does. I felt like more than just another patient to her. She happened to get called in during the later part of my labor where I was in excruciating pain. “As soon as she walked in, she immediately offered me comfort and advocated on my behalf to the other nurses in the room. She took it upon herself to also take pictures during my delivery, and I am so grateful for that! She even made a point to see me in recovery. My husband and I both enjoyed seeing her walk into our room our entire hospital stay. You can tell nursing isn’t just a job for her, and I love that." Would you like to nominate a deserving nurse? • We could not be more proud of our own Justin Fogt, Director of Cardiac Nursing Services, who was honored this week with the ScionHealth 2025 Monarch Caring and Community Award, the highest honor given to only three caregivers across our vast System’s more than 80 sister community and specialty hospitals nationwide. A Columbus native, Fogt continually puts our patients at the forefront of everything he does as a nursing leader. Making connections to patients is a cornerstone of the healing process and Fogt leads from the front, delivering consistent five-star care to those who depend on us every day. “If you can connect with a patient, their care is so much more meaningful for you and for them,” he says. “The greatest advice I could give anyone and what I try to instill in our staff from a nursing standpoint is that you are there to care for that person in that bed – it’s great to have the clinical data and knowledge, but the best thing any of us can do is focus on that person and learn how to care for their body, soul, and mind.” Learn more about Justin’s story in the video below or visit https://lnkd.in/efqwem3Q

  • Our St. Francis-Emory Healthcare PCN / PCS team achieved the highest communication scores this month based on patient experience survey feedback from those we had the privilege to care for. Our five-star staff on PCN / PCS demonstrated effective communication using the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You) framework, focusing on a consistent and standard way to communicate with patients. Nicely done! Congrats!
