St. Francis Medical Center is pleased to renew a tradition that began in 1992 -- providing pre-home game meals to the Lynwood High School Football Team. Put on hold during the pandemic, the program has now returned. Head Coach Levar Castillo said the meals help to ensure that the players have nourishing food before the games. He ties the meals in with talks about taking care of your body and maintaining a healthy diet throughout life. Francisco Fuentes-Palacios, Manager, Food and Nutrition, and the dietary team prepare the food. Francisco said that every meal is carefully planned to include protein, vegetables, carbohydrates, and bottled water. And it tastes good too! Our Lynwood High School outreach is part of our Mission "to deliver compassionate, quality care to patients and better healthcare to communities." Through the healthy meals we provide, we deliver the message that good nutrition and a balanced lifestyle give you the best opportunity to achieve your athletic, academic, and personal goals.

Feast Day of St. Vincent - St. Vincent de Paul, known throughout the world as "The Father of Charity," loved the community. He expressed his care for others by sharing meals with families and ensuring that everyone had nourishing food to eat. With every gift of food, St. Vincent included an elegant napkin, letting recipients know that they were valued and deserved the best. In honor of St. Vincent's Feast Day, our healthcare team prepared and delivered more than 500 healthy sack lunches -- with an elegant napkin -- to the students of St. Lawrence of Brindisi School and Our Lady of Victory School, and to individuals who are supported through the Friars Poor of Jesus Christ Los Angeles Downtown Skid Row Ministry. We also shared soup and bread, with an elegant napkin, together as a healthcare team. In our daily care of patients, we share the commitment to carry forward St. Vincent's mission of care and his expression of kindness and respect for all those we serve.

Sr. Paz has been a member of the St. Francis family for more than 29 years. As one of our dedicated chaplains, she has tended to the emotional and spiritual needs of thousands of patients. Early on she managed Casa de Esperanza, our former transitional housing apartments for mothers and children in need. Since then, she has helped to establish the ICU Compassionate Listener Program and has served as our trauma response chaplain and a sage mentor for our chaplain interns. Happy Retirement, Sr. Paz. We will miss you!
