  • When the pandemic hit, Savannah Bur and her husband took a moment to evaluate their options. With ongoing layoffs at Savannah's workplace and two young children at home to care for, this was an ideal time for her to explore new career possibilities. "It just so happened a State Farm recruiter reached out about the independent contractor agent opportunity, and the timing couldn't have been better. I knew this was where I was meant to be." As she pursued becoming a State Farm agent, Savannah connected with numerous State Farm agents to seek advice and gain insight. "Every agent I spoke with was a multi-generational agent. I was different — an outsider with no previous ties to State Farm. If multiple generations were following the same path, it had to be a great opportunity. I wanted this same future for my kids. "Having spent four years as an agent, my team and I are making our mark in the community we serve. If you're considering this opportunity, my advice is to keep your eyes wide open, and it could change the whole trajectory of your life." • Before becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent, Guillermo Chavez-Angeles spent 14 years as a mortgage lender. After a real estate crash, Guillermo wanted to continue making deeper, face-to-face business connections which led him to discover the agent opportunity. "The agency model gave me a platform to serve, educate, and build generational impact — starting with something as simple as an insurance conversation and growing into deeper life planning." Guillermo's Hispanic culture is a big part of who he is and rooted in everything he does. "I came to the U.S. at the age of 16; knowing that my parents took a leap of faith in search of better opportunities for their children is something I carry with me every single day. This is a familiar story shared by so many — my team members, State Farm customers, and some of my closest friends." This shared experience of sacrifice, resilience, and hope is at the heart of how Guillermo runs his business. "My goal is simple: to inspire the next generation by showing them what’s possible when you embrace your roots and lead with grit and purpose." • For Andy Esquivel, both Hispanic Heritage Month and Life Insurance Awareness Month hold deep meaning. "Raised in a family of migrant farm workers, often living without indoor plumbing, I learned early the power of community and resilience. My parents, who never graduated high school, instilled in me the importance of education.” After college, Andy joined the State Farm accounting department before discovering the independent contractor agent opportunity. "The Hispanic communities of my childhood were always tightly knit, where neighbors helped neighbors in times of joy and hardship. Now as a State Farm agent, my community is broader, but those values remain." Andy reflects on a personal tragedy—the loss of his son to a drunk driver—which strengthened his commitment. "With the support of the community and our local Rotary Club, we established a memorial scholarship to honor my son, while recognizing the hard work and service of others. This scholarship will continue to promote the spirit of community care long into the future." "I’m so proud to serve as a State Farm agent and lead a team ready to help anyone who crosses our path."
