  • ✨ What’s beautiful about St. Joe’s is how our team members come together to care for our community—inside and outside the hospital walls. This weekend was a shining example: 🌿 On Saturday, St. Joe’s team members volunteered their time to clean up and prepare the trail for our Commit to Community event. 🌎 We were proud to host a resource table at the first-ever Multicultural Fair at the Bangor Public Library. 🏃♀️ And on Sunday, the turnout for the Commit to Community 5K/10K Race was incredible! The support for our SAFE Program was inspiring to witness. 💚 Thank you to our friends, families, patients, team members, and the greater community for showing up in such a powerful way.

  • 🎉 This Month: Celebrating Sister Barbara Martis! 🎉 We honor Sister Barbara Martis for 40 years at St. Joseph Healthcare! When she started in 1985, nurses wore white caps, the ED had just 3 beds, and there were no computers or MRIs. Yet through it all, Sister Barbara has witnessed—and helped drive—decades of growth, innovation, and compassionate care. She shares, “Our staff is exemplary, always finding new ways to care for patients. Compassion is the ingredient that makes healing complete, and I hope it continues to fill our halls and community for many years to come.” Thank you, Sister Barbara, for 40 years of dedication, guidance, and heart.

  • Congratulations Sue Lee Ross, CNA, our newest recipient of the Sunshine Award at St. Joseph Healthcare! The Sunshine Award recognizes Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who brighten the days of their patients, families, and co-workers. Honorees are selected based on demonstration of the St. Joseph Hospital Values of Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence. Sue Lee was nominated by Addison Gagnon, Occupational Therapist, who shared: “It is with great pride and admiration that I nominate Sue Lee for recognition as an outstanding certified nursing assistant. Sue Lee consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of her role, providing not only exceptional care to her patients but also unwavering support to her co-workers. Sue Lee’s dedication to her patients is unmatched. You can always trust that when she is assigned to a patient, they are in the best possible hands. She ensures her patients are up and out of bed several times a day, promoting both physical and emotional well-being, and actively working toward their safe and successful discharge. Her efforts directly impact our patients’ recovery, comfort, and overall satisfaction. What truly sets Sue Lee apart is her kind, caring, and compassionate nature. No matter the circumstances, she always greets everyone with a warm smile and positive attitude. Her presence brings comfort and calm to her patients, and it’s no surprise that they often request her by name. • On August 7, we wrapped up our 11-week Nurse Externship Program—a hands-on, paid learning experience for nursing students from across Maine. Over the summer, our externs: 💉 Worked alongside nurses in multiple departments, building clinical skills and confidence. 📚 Prepared for the NCLEX with weekly review sessions. 🏥 Learned through shadowing, simulation, and skill labs. 🤝 Gave back to the community by volunteering at the Good Shepherd Food Bank, where they packed 240 food boxes for older adults in need. This program not only expanded their nursing knowledge—it reaffirmed their passion for patient care. We are incredibly proud of their growth and look forward to the possibility of seeing them back at St. Joe’s as future RNs! 💚 👏 Congratulations to: Hailee Hartford, Natasha Jones, Kiara Arnold, Riley Chiasson, and Allie Rice!
