After 40 years of giving his time, talent, and heart to the natural gas industry, our own Fred Kirkwood is retiring—and it’s tough to put into words the impact he’s made. As our Chief Customer Experience Officer, Fred has shaped the future of Summit Utilities with his people-first mindset. He is widely respected for his leadership and vision, particularly in energy efficiency, customer service, and strategic growth, but those who know him best will say it’s his humility, integrity, and support for others that truly stand out. Fred has been more than a leader—a mentor, a trusted colleague, and a true friend. His passion for people and for the communities he serves has left a lasting mark far beyond the workplace. We celebrate not just Fred's career, but the guidance, wisdom, and kindness he’s shared along the way. We are deeply grateful for his decades of service and confident that his legacy will continue to inspire us for many years to come. As a trusted energy partner in Arkansas, we work every day to deliver safe, reliable natural gas service to our communities—helping keep life flowing. Vernon McNully, our Vice President of Operations at Summit, says it best: “A good utility is one that the customer doesn’t have to think about very often. That’s certainly the goal of all utilities—to be there when you need us and not come up when you don’t.” In this Arkansas Money & Politics feature, Vernon shares how we’re modernizing infrastructure, using advanced tools like predictive analytics and leak detection, and exploring smart metering and AI to help improve reliability and better serve our customers. It’s all part of our commitment to balancing operational excellence with responsible stewardship for the people and communities we serve. Last week, nine Summit team members spent the morning volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas home in Little Rock that we're proudly supporting. Our team helped paint interior walls, bringing the house one step closer to completion! This was our third Volunteer Time Off (VTO) day on the project, and it’s inspiring to see the progress. The home is on track to be move-in ready in early 2026, complete with natural gas appliances that will support energy-efficient living. Each phase of progress represents more than construction — it’s a fresh start for a family in our community. #HabitatForHumanity #LittleRock #VolunteerTimeOff #GivingBack

Last month, we were honored to join the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas for this year’s Fill the Food Bank event! Our Summit team members spent their Volunteer Time Off (VTO) day collecting and sorting donations at the Walmart in Jonesboro, coming together with the community to help support our neighbors facing food insecurity as the holidays approach. 🧡 It was inspiring to see the impact we can make when we work side by side. Together, all participating locations helped raise 535,473 meals for Arkansas families! Thank you for inviting us to be part of such a meaningful day. #FillTheFoodBank #FoodBankOfNortheastArkansas #CommunitySupport #EndHunger #VolunteerTimeOff
