About us
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has developed a set of disclosure recommendations and guidance that encourage and enable business and finance to assess, report and act on their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. Sign up to our mailing list - https://ow.ly/69Ub50WOXB4 The recommendations and guidance will enable businesses and finance to integrate nature into decision making. Our aim is to support a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes, aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Launched in 2021, TNFD released the first beta versions its framework for consultation and feedback between March 2022 and March 2024. Over the two-year design and development phase leading to the publication of the TNFD recommendations in September 2023, it received feedback from over 60 countries. Over 200 pilot tests of a prototype framework were conducted by business and financial institutions around the world across sectors, geographies and biomes. TNFD published its final recommendation in September 2023.

Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) reposted this
This morning in Abu Dhabi, on the eve of the #IUCNCongress, we opened the “World Summit of #IndigenousPeoples and Nature” — a historic first in IUCN’s 77-year history. It was an honour to be joined by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri (Secretary General, Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi), Ramiro Batzin (IUCN Vice President and Council Indigenous Peoples’ Representative), Dr. Anita F. Tzec (Maya Yucatec Leader; Senior Programme Manager, Indigenous Peoples and Conservation, IUCN), Grethel Aguilar (Director General of IUCN), and, virtually, Minister Sonia Guajajara, Brazil’s Minister of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Peoples’ Representative for COP30 Brazil. This gathering marks the first time that all Indigenous Member organisations of IUCN have come together to shape our shared priorities for nature — and to remind the world that Indigenous leadership is essential to effective conservation. Indigenous Peoples safeguard more than 80% of global biodiversity, not through policy alone, but through generations of knowledge, stewardship, and respect for the living systems that sustain us all. For the first time, this Congress also features a true home for Indigenous Peoples within its exhibition: the Indigenous Peoples Pavilion. More than a physical space, it is a symbol of IUCN’s commitment to inclusion — a place where knowledge, culture, and science meet to chart new pathways for conservation. Later this evening, I will have the privilege of welcoming Indigenous representatives to the desert of #AbuDhabi for a #KnowledgeExchange, where Emirati hosts and Indigenous leaders will share stories of coexistence with nature — from the rainforests of the Amazon to the sands and seas of Arabia. Together, we are building a conservation movement that honours wisdom, deepens unity, and places people and nature at its heart. #Nature #Conservation #Inclusion #COP30Brazil

Our prosperity, resilience and long-term financial stability depend on the health of ecosystems and the services they provide. As nature’s resilience declines, so too does the resilience of businesses, supply chains and economies that depend on it. Recognising both the dependencies and impacts on nature is essential for managing material risks and securing future value creation. Organised by TNFD's partners, IUCN and the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB), today's gathering assembled 200 Indigenous leaders from around the world with clear recognition from IUCN President and TNFD Co-Chair Razan Al Mubarak and IUCN Director General Grethel Aguilar and others that Indigenous leaders are not affected stakeholders to be consulted, but nature stewards whose on-the-ground efforts and traditional knowledge are essential assets that need to be respected and valued by society and business. International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) Co-Chair and TNFD Senior Adviser Lucy Mulenkei highlighted the progress being made, including the pioneering partnership between the TNFD and IIFB over a two-year period to develop the TNFD engagement guidance between Indigenous Peoples and business and finance. It recognises that a failure by business and finance to appropriately engage Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities and affected stakeholders can create transition risks for companies and investors. 🔗 Download the guidance: https://ow.ly/Z3fL50X8nVK David Craig, Emily McKenzie, Dr. Anita F. 📢 ISO - International Organization for Standardization publish their first biodiversity standard: ISO 17298 – Biodiversity: Considering biodiversity in the strategy and operations of organizations. 🔗 Read here: https://ow.ly/WbRg50X7AMI Biodiversity is a critical consideration for the resilience of business strategy, risk management and value creation, across sectors and geographies, and we are pleased to have supported the ISO with its development of this important standard, building from our recommendations and LEAP approach. ISO 17298 will help as an international standard in further harmonising concepts, definitions and approaches, and supporting organisations to consider nature-related issues in their strategy and operations. In particular the ISO 17298 standard: ▪️ Builds on the work of TNFD and especially the LEAP approach. ▪️ Recognises the importance of the identification and management of nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. ▪️ Reflects continued efforts by ISO in aligning with other global standards and reporting frameworks, an ongoing focus of our work. ▪️ Is designed to help embed biodiversity considerations into organisation strategies, operations and decision-making processes for companies in both the public and private sectors. #Biodiversity #ISOStandards #BusinessStrategy #ISO17298 #SDGs #TNFD #NatureDisclosure

Significant momentum on nature-related financial disclosures builds across China. David Craig, Co-Chair of the TNFD, recently visited China - read his trip overview here: https://ow.ly/LrLN50X5sJi Earlier this year, the Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges released sustainability reporting guidelines structured around the four pillars of the TNFD recommended disclosures. This is a significant signal of commitment from China’s capital markets and coincides with model guidance published this week by TNFD and the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative. 🔗 Download the guidance: https://ow.ly/YY5450X5sHh The China Securities Regulatory Commission’s (CSRC) update to the Administrative Measures for the Information Disclosure by Listed Companies, coupled with the Bank of China joining as our 40th Taskforce member, has further solidified efforts across China. We would like to thank the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), TNFD Consultation Group convenor for Mainland China, and the Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) and Business Environment Council (BEC), co-conveners of our Hong Kong Consultation Group, for their support. #TNFD #China #NaturePositive #SustainabilityReporting #GreenFinance
