We continued day two of the #2025TEAWestSummit with a forward-looking conversation on one of the hottest topics facing the West today - the seams that come with the creation of multiple new markets. Moderated by Laura Trolese, Director of Western Markets & Strategy at TEA, the panel featured industry leaders who brought decades of experience and unique perspectives from both Eastern and Western markets: ▪️ Steve Beuning, Principal, Stephen Beuning Consulting, LLC ▪️ Marc Keyser, Director of External Affairs – Central Region, MISO ▪️ James Gonzalez of Seams & Western Services, SPP From operational coordination between markets to new market design that enables more efficient trade, the panel explored how the mutual benefits that can be achieved through greater coordination between markets results in significant cost savings and enhanced reliability, especially in times of system stress. This session underscored the importance of proactive collaboration and thoughtful design as we work toward integrating multiple markets in the West. #2025TEAWestSummit

At our California Happy Hour session, TEA’s Jaclyn Harr, Account Director, and Christopher Weber, Portfolio Manager, walked the audience through how California’s energy markets are getting a makeover, one hour at a time. From the recent shift to “Slice-of-Day” resource adequacy (RA) to the planned move toward hourly greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and potential of hourly renewable energy credit (REC) tracking on the horizon, the state is doubling down on granularity (and acronyms!). They explained the drivers of the coming regulatory changes, and how these issues fit into the on-going discussions of the CPUC's Reliable and Clean Power Procurement Program. These changes may feel uniquely Californian for now, but they offer a glimpse into where Western market design could be headed. What do you think this will mean for market participants? Do you think there will be a ripple effect beyond the California border? #2025TEAWestSummit

Nathan Miller, Director at Energy and Environmental Economics (E3), helped us kick off day two of our TEA West Summit with a state of the markets update that gave attendees a clear view of where things stand across the Western Interconnection. Nate broke down the latest developments influencing the markets we transact in, offering both data-driven insights and big-picture context that helped frame many of the conversations that followed. With E3’s expertise and perspective, it’s clear that understanding the evolving market landscape is key to navigating the energy transition. Thank you, Nate! #2025TEAWestSummit

We were honored to have a team from Amazon Web Services (AWS) join us yesterday for a panel discussion titled, Behind the Scenes with Amazon: “Alexa, Where Should We Build?” Amazon panelists Nathan Hill, Public Policy Principal, Rocale Timmons, MBA, Economic Development Principal, and Travis Metcalfe, PE, PMP, Senior Energy Strategy Manager, offered a rare inside look at how AWS approaches hyperscale data center siting. From navigating regulatory frameworks and evaluating energy infrastructure to building long-term community and economic development partnerships, the conversation shed light on the complexity behind these high-impact decisions. With load growth from data centers at the forefront of every utility planning conversation, this session helped our clients understand the complex factors that drive growth—and how we as an industry can prepare. Thank you to the Amazon panelists and our TEA moderator, Jeff Fuller, Director of Client Services West, for bringing your insight, transparency, and collaborative spirit to the TEA West Summit. #2025TEAWestSummit

In a time when the stakes have never been higher, Rick Desimone of Desimone Consulting Group delivered a thought-provoking session yesterday on the political headwinds facing community-owned utilities in the clean energy transition. As Rick explained, these utilities are now caught between misaligned federal and state mandates, conflicting incentives, and evolving policy priorities. The result? A growing challenge to reliably and affordably serve customers while pursuing ambitious decarbonization goals. Rick offered a candid look at the current policy landscape and shared valuable insights on what utilities should watch for as the regulatory environment continues to shift and how to take advantage of the opportunity to solve these new problems. A timely and important discussion for anyone navigating energy, policy, and public power. Rick emphasized to the audience that if they take anything away from his presentation it was to “be involved and be loud about their needs." #2025TEAWestSummit
