About us
Teaching Lab is a nonprofit organization that works to close the educational opportunity gap through teacher-led professional learning. We identify exceptional teacher-leaders, work with them to recruit their colleagues, and support them in improving instruction for under-served students. In order to raise the achievement of under-served students, we must help thousands of teachers improve their instruction. Despite US schools investing over $20 billion annually in teacher training, typical professional development (PD) simply does not work. Most PD is ineffective because it is characterized by low teacher buy-in, generic content, and lack of follow through. Teaching Lab offers an effective and scalable alternative for rapidly improving teaching quality. Teaching Lab uses a model based on three key elements supported by cognitive science and education research: Teacher Leadership, Core Content, and Iterative Cycles of Inquiry. These elements in combination create impact greater than the sum of their parts.

Hey, #Texas! TEA’s LASO Cycle 4 application is live, and we are honored to be an approved provider for the new Leadership and Instructional Foundations for Texas (LIFT) program. Combining the best parts of previous programs like Strong Foundations, Instructional Leadership for Texas, and TX Lesson Study, LIFT will build instructional coherence across districts by planning for HQIM adoption, coaching for school and district leadership, and training for teachers. Ready to learn more about how Teaching Lab will support Texas schools through LIFT? Email Wesley Kline, M.Ed. (wesley.kline@techinglab.org) to find a time to connect.

Our coaches and facilitators crafted a joint school leader protocol that enabled principals to observe instruction outside of their normal habitat, receive objective feedback from us, district leaders, and a respected peer, and also role-play providing the mock teacher actionable feedback aligned to lesson and unit internalization best practices in a safe environment. Stay tuned for more updates from our Texas team!
