  • Get to know Texas Health! Meet Alejandra Penagos, a PRN sonographer at Texas Health Plano. Alejandra is in our employee spotlight and talks about what first attracted her to Texas Health when she did a clinical rotation at Texas Health Frisco. “I loved the culture,” Alejandra said. “I had other clinicals, so I went to a different hospital at another system for my first rotations. But Texas Health Frisco was my second and I instantly noticed that everyone was so welcoming! You would be walking down the halls and they’d ask, ‘Oh, how are you doing?’” Our employees are awesome! • Did you know the average the length of stay for blood cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in the hospital is 40 days? During this time, patients face physical and emotional challenges and frequently report feelings of depression and anxiety. Recently, Texas Health Fort Worth's Harris 7 celebrated their Oncology Patient Well Being Project. In April of 2025, the Harris 7 team ventured on a journey to enhance well being during the hospital stay by offering alternative resources (books, games and crafts) and activities to our patients on Harris 7. A multidisciplinary team that included representation from Harris 7 nursing, physical therapy, chaplain and oncology social work worked together on this project. In addition, the team included nurse practitioners from each of the medical oncology practices. We're so thankful for the gracious donations from the Texas Health Resources Foundation, physicians, advanced practice providers and staff. We have the best employees! #Get2KnowTexasHealth

  • Get to know Texas Health! Meet Dustin Sloan, a supervisor of Supply Chain Management at Texas Health Arlington Memorial. Dustin is in our employee spotlight and talks about what fuels his passion, what people may be surprised to learn about his connection to Texas Health and why no two days are the same. When asked what is your favorite part of your job, Dustin said, "My favorite part of the job is that every day is different and presents a new challenge. I thoroughly enjoy the problem-solving aspect, whether it’s tracking down a new item or finding an alternative to a back-ordered product." Our team members are awesome! • Community Time Off (CTO) allows Texas Health employees to serve and volunteer with outside organizations, schools and nonprofits in our local service areas. And our employees have really been busy supporting our communities. • Texas Health Alliance team members spent a workday at Christ's Haven For Children, helping spruce up a home with painting, furniture-building, and outdoor flower bed cleaning. It was a nice change of pace to be outside the hospital, helping the community in a different way. • Texas Health Dallas's Nurse Managers exemplified servant leadership as they recently volunteered at Vickery Meadow, working tirelessly to unload delivery pallets and assemble nearly 600 bags of food for local residents. Through their compassion and commitment, they made a lasting impact on the community—bringing our Texas Health mission to life by improving the health of the people in the communities we serve. • Texas Health Breeze's Donnelly and Bryant Irvin clinics recently partnered with the Texas Health Fort Worth at the Empowering Seniors Wellness Expo at the Will Rogers Memorial Center! The staff conducted blood pressure and color-blind screenings for all who attended. We love giving back to the communities we serve. #Get2KnowTexasHealth #GivingBack #ServingOurCommunity #Volunteering

  • Planting and pruning at Texas Health Fort Worth is underway for an eco-friendly reveal. Thanks to innovative ideas from nursing leadership, the hospital’s employees and visitors will soon enjoy a butterfly garden on campus. Located along West Terrell Avenue between the Emergency Department and Klabzuba tower, the new butterfly garden is full of flowers that attract butterflies, such as bergamot, blazing stars and milkweed. “Along with improving the community, we became interested in the intersection between climate and environment on health outcomes for humans,” said Shirley Martin, Ph.D., R.N., CPN. “We recognized that time in nature is healing for patients and their caregivers in and out of the hospital.” “Gardening represents both an encounter with nature and a form of exercise,” Shirley said. Physical exercise through gardening can also help with reducing blood pressure and relieving muscle tension, according to the National Institutes of Health. We're thankful to the volunteers who have worked to build this beautiful space. #Get2KnowTexasHealth
