AP courses have officially launched in Taipei Public Schools. The Taipei City Department of Education, along with five high schools and Carol Choong of College Board’s International Division, held the launch ceremony for the “Pilot Program of Advanced Placement (AP) Internationally Accredited Advanced Courses for Gifted High School Students in Taipei City.” Fifty-seven teachers from those high schools received training from the College Board and starting in the 2025 academic year, the five high schools will pilot AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and AP Microeconomics. The Taipei City Department of Education is encouraging gifted students to take these courses and the corresponding AP exams and plans to eventually expand to more students. This AP initiative is a milestone because it’s the first time in Taiwan that AP courses are offered in public schools without additional tuition charged to students’ families.
