🔊 Shutdown update for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) 🏛️💸💊💉⚕️ For those tracking the potential impact of a shutdown at HHS - the agency just posted their "FY 2026 HHS Contingency Staffing Plan for Operations in the Absence of Enacted Annual Appropriations" (see link below) https://lnkd.in/e4fN6spX Note the specific sections for each OpDiv - according to the HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) section, most of ASPR (including BARDA, SNS, and IBMSC) will continue operations: "ASPR staff will continue negotiating, awarding, and managing contracts that are critical to the other material threats within ASPR's mission. I had the pleasure of attending day 1 of this year's BioHealth Capital Region Forum in Rockville, Maryland. What a great group and series of talks. As someone who has lived in the DMV for a long time, I can't believe this was my first time going to this meeting. It is a great mix people from industry, academia, and the public sector. My favorite was a session on AI. This amounted to a whirlwind overview of how AI can be used in healthcare and medical research. The possibilities are both dizzying and daunting (also demanding from an ethical point of view). The concept I found most intriguing from yesterday's panel had to do with supply chain and using AI to know when to scale up or scale down manufacturing - not unlike how Amazon manages its distribution. Cool stuff! Thanks to the panelists for such a thought-provoking discussion.

Great to attend Research!America’s 2025 National Health Research Forum and hear from NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya on the agency’s priorities. The panel discussion on framing the value of medical and health research in today’s political landscape was especially insightful.
