  • ✨ Day 2: Fall Break Trip — Lessons from Agency Life ✨ If Day 1 was about exploring opportunities in corporate communication, Day 2 was all about agency life — and the lessons came fast. From conversations with professionals across multiple creative and strategic teams at Jackson Spalding, Edelman, and Arketi Group, our Martin Scholars learned that thriving in an agency setting means showing up with curiosity, adaptability, and trust. Here are a few lessons that resonated with us: 🔍 Lead with curiosity. Ask questions. Learn as much as you can in every room. 📰 Keep your pulse on the media landscape and on the topics, trends, and issues your clients care most about. Be an active listener and confidant, and always help them show up as their best selves. 🔄 It’s okay to pivot. Your path will shift, and so will the work — stay flexible and open. 🤝 Relationships and trust are everything. Great work begins with people who believe in each other. ⚡ Be nimble. Deadlines change, trends evolve, and the best communicators move with both speed and intention. 💼 And yes — B2B can be sexy too. Because strategy, storytelling, and impact live everywhere. So grateful to our agency hosts, especially Martin Scholar alum, Samantha Sommers, for pulling back the curtain and reminding our students that creativity, curiosity, and connection are at the heart of great communication. Special thanks to Tom Martin for creating these opportunities for our students and to Bethany Goodier and Ryan Milner for spending their fall break with us and helping to guide meaningful conversations and connections throughout the week.

  • ✨ Day 1 of the Fall Break Trip: Lessons in Leadership and Communication ✨ Today, our Martin Scholars hit the ground running with incredible site visits to Delta Air Lines, The Home Depot, UPS , and Adult Swim. Each offered powerful insights into what it takes to build meaningful, purpose-driven careers in communication. From learning that we should “say yes,” "prioritize" and "write your plan in pencil," to realizing that core skills like writing, critical thinking and speaking will always matter more than specific tools, today reminded us that the path to success is rarely linear — and that corporate communication roles offer more opportunities (and creativity!) than most students ever imagine. A huge thank you to our hosts Berj Alexanian, Caroline Coyle, Malcolm K. Berkley, and Sarah Platock and their teams who shared their time, wisdom, and stories with us. You’ve helped our students see new possibilities and inspired them to think bigger about their own journeys. Here’s to kicking off Fall Break the right way — with great conversations, new connections, and lessons that last far beyond the trip. Can't wait to see what tomorrow holds! ✈️💬💛 #MartinScholars #CorporateCommunication #COFCCOMM

  • 💡 Celebrating the Mentorship of our Advisory Council!🏆 We are incredibly grateful for the National Advisory Council and their dedication to mentor the future leaders in communication! During this past visit, council members went above and beyond to help offer guidance, mentorship, and share experiences to help students naviagate their paths throughout college and beyond. These mentoring moments not only provided insights, but also brought confidence to our students as they prepare to enter their careers! College and post-grad can be daunting, full of unknowns, and overwhelming. Thanks to the Advisory Council, these worries are being alleviated by students having access to support and encouragement. Mentoring is a crucial piece of young professionals careers and we cannot thank the Advisory Council enough for investing their time and dedication into this! Your impact reaches far beyond these events and we are eternally grateful to have such inspiring role models in the field.
