There are countless ways to tell stories in the communications world—but I’ll always have a soft spot for print magazines. The Mint Museum's biannual magazine "Inspired" is hitting member mailboxes this week, and it’s always a treat to bring my editor’s toolkit to the table for this project. From planning to production, it’s a true team effort with two incredibly talented designers: Stephanie Lepore and David Lewandowski. Thanks to the collaborative talent, "Inspired" continues to be an award winner with honors from the Southeastern Museums Conference. 📸 We’re thrilled to announce a major photography initiative made possible by a generous multi-year gift from Bank of America! As part of this initiative to diversify our collection and deepen community engagement, we will be acquiring over 1,000 photographs over the next five years — doubling the Mint’s photography collection and positioning it as one of the premier collections in the Southeastern United States. The donation features works by some of the most significant names in photography, including Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sally Mann, Garry Winogrand, Paul Strand, and many more. This transformative gift lays the groundwork for a future dedicated gallery space focused on photography, ensuring that photography installations are always on view at the Mint, and that the collection serves as a valuable resource for artists, educators, and students alike. It will expand access to world-class photography, support artist development, and inspire public programming that is inclusive, innovative, and community-centered. What a year it has been at The Mint Museum! Here's a look back at some of our most memorable moments from 2024: 🖼️ We welcomed over 100,000+ visitors and hosted a plethora of impactful exhibitions, including "Whitfield Lovell: Passages," "Shinichi Sawada: Agents of Clay," and "Craft Across Continents" to name only a few! 📍 We partnered with local artists and arts organizations, including de’Angelo DIA, Fred Smith, Kenny Nguyen, davita galloway, Charlotte Is Creative, Jackie Shelton Green, Monique Luck, Carla Aaron-Lopez, Susan Brenner, Malik J. Norman, Beverly Smith, Tom Delaney, Dammit Wesley, Juan Logan, and liliya zalevskaya to name a few! 🎟️ FREE admission for students in grades K-12 and college art students thanks to Mint Board Trustee Charlotte Wickham, who danced at Charlotte Ballet's Dancing With the Stars Gala. 💖 10,000+ children were inspired through school tours, workshops, and family programs. 🎨 7,400+ Free Art Kits were created and distributed, including 3,500 shared through Communities In Schools of Charlotte Mecklenburg, Inc (@cischarlotte). 🖌️ 5,800+ visitors of all ages enjoyed creating and engaging in art at the Lewis Family Family Gallery at Mint Museum Uptown. 🇺🇸 3,000+ active or retired military personnel and their families enjoyed free museum admission. ❤️🩹 $8,448 raised from admissions in support of WNC craft artists, and 1,800+ attendees shopped at the WNC Hurricane Relief Potters Market. 📱 We proudly launched our new digital guide made possible by Bloomberg Philanthropies—making art more accessible than ever. Thank you to our amazing supporters, volunteers, and partners for making 2024 a year to remember.
