Thank you, Nathan Chappell, MBA, MNA, CFRE, co-author of The Generosity Crisis: The Case for Radical Connection to Solve Humanity’s Greatest Challenges, for keynoting our 2025 Professional Advisors Luncheon last week! Nathan’s insights and data underlined an incredible opportunity for wealth advisors, estate planning attorneys, and tax planning professionals: by speaking to your clients’ values, you can help plan their family legacy, reverse the drop in charitable giving in the US – and become their life-long advisor. We are also grateful to the 170 advisors who joined us, and who are interested in the San Francisco Foundation as a resource for Bay Area philanthropy. For AAPI Heritage Month, SFF’s staff-led AAPI Affinity Group joined National Japanese American Historical Society (NJAHS) for a walking tour of SF’s Japantown. Our group learned about the storied history of Japantown, the impact of the 1906 earthquake, WWII and internment camps, and the many programs, art installations, and activities that are continued today. One of the most notable changes over time has been the size of Japantown. At one point, the neighborhood stretched 46 blocks but is now 14 blocks. Visit njahs.org for more information about their work, upcoming events and exhibitions, and walking tours. #AAPIHeritageMonth

Today we remember George Floyd, who was brutally murdered five years ago this Sunday. Many of us also remember that in the months that followed, there was a flurry of new announcements from corporations and foundations all making new commitments to racial and social justice. And now the movement is in the opposite direction. As if racial justice has been solved. At SFF, we are standing by our values and doubling down on our commitment to racial equity. It was easy to be about this work when the wind was in our sails, and it is harder — but necessary — to continue when there is pressure to recede. — Fred Blackwell, CEO, SFF Read more https://ow.ly/CR8450VWKrj

Recently, GCC Associate Director Ricardo G. H., of the San Francisco Foundation, attended a powerful gathering organized by Colin Groth of StriveTogether and Richard Raya of Marin Promise Partnership to learn more about how the GCC-funded multisector collaborative can support the work of Marin Promise Neighborhood. The event featured County of Marin community partners, public sector and institutional leaders, as well as national guests, to share learning and foster connections to support cradle-to-college-to-career models of community development. It also explored how deepening collaborative efforts in places like the Canal neighborhood, Marin City, Novato, and West Marin can help communities in Marin County drive efforts toward "a future where every child has what they need to thrive." Speakers included leaders from the Harlem Children's Zone, StriveTogether, as well as community leader Aurelia Vargas of Voces del Canal; Omar Carrera, CEO of Canal Alliance; Sarah Hobson, ED of West Marin Fund; City of San Rafael Manager Cristine (Reid) Alilovich, San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin, and Supervisor Dennis Rodoni. GCC partners and colleagues were also in attendance, such as San Rafael Vice-Mayor Maika Llorens Gulati, Esmeralda Garcia, MBA, of the Multicultural Center of Marin, and Diana Benitez of Canal Alliance.
