How to spot a hackathon that's going to be 98% male (save for future reference 🔖) 1.⁠ ⁠The poster looks like a terminal window from 2004 2.⁠ ⁠The tagline includes “disrupt”, “ship”, or “grind” and the word “cracked” appears more than once 3.⁠ ⁠Every photo is of men in black hoodies 4.⁠ ⁠There are three kinds of pizza and zero kinds of vegetables 5.⁠ ⁠No mention of design, only “execution” 6.⁠ ⁠The application form asks you for your X handle 7.⁠ ⁠The opening slide says “We’re proud to be inclusive” and then it isn’t 8. “The hackiest hack wins” is listed under judging criteria 9.⁠ ⁠The vibe: sleep optional 10.⁠ ⁠Every organiser is named Tom, Jack, or Alex You deserve better hackathons.
