There’s no better way to end our reflections on this summer’s incredible five Academies, held in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Miami, and Amherst, than with the words of one of our Scholars from Summer Academy 1 at Amherst College. Pulling together 40 teaching faculty from across the country to lead instruction across 5 sites and 8 programs is no small feat, but thanks to this dedicated group of educators, we did it. 💥 This playful collage offers a lighthearted glimpse into the incredible team behind our Thrive Academies this summer, a group whose talent, care, and dedication helped bring each classroom to life. As one faculty member shared, “One of my favorite places to be is in the classroom working with students. I find great importance in helping students achieve their goals, and Thrive Scholars are the most deserving students.” From intensive math and writing instruction to guiding meaningful conversations and providing mentorship in and out of the classroom, these educators played a critical role in preparing Scholars for the academic challenges ahead and in building the confidence they’ll carry with them into college and beyond. This summer, Thrive Scholars launched another powerful chapter of our Summer Academy programs at Amherst College and the University of Miami, our flagship residential experience designed to prepare high-achieving students for college success and beyond. Over six intensive weeks, Scholars participated in rigorous math and writing instruction while developing the skills, mindset, and support network that will guide them through their college journey. At Amherst, 226 Scholars in our 6-Year Program and 25 OnRamp Scholars challenged themselves academically while experiencing life on a college campus, marking the start of their Thrive journey. 🙌🏽 In Miami, 196 Scholars in our 6-Year Program took their development to the next level, building on what they started in their first Summer Academy the previous year as they prepare to step onto college campuses this fall. 📚 From group study sessions and classroom breakthroughs to shared meals and deep conversations, the experience created more than just academic readiness; it cultivated community, confidence, and momentum. This summer, 243 Scholars gathered at the University of Southern California for the BMO Thrive Academy – Los Angeles, a transformative experience made possible by the incredible support of our title sponsor, BMO U.S.. Two Academies ran concurrently as part of the experience: Thrive Academy 1 for rising high school seniors preparing for the college admissions journey, and Thrive Academy 2 for incoming college first-years preparing themselves for the academic and professional demands of college. Scholars in Thrive Academy 1 participated in a robust college access curriculum, including College Access Day, a Mock Admissions workshop, College Essay Lab, College Fair, and a dynamic Networking Event during our Career Symposium. Each experience was designed to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the college application process with clarity and purpose. Our inaugural cohort of Thrive Academy 2 Scholars explored their future through College Success Day, four immersive Day on the Job experiences across industries, and a culminating Career Capstone Symposium. These opportunities gave them the exposure and skills needed to start college with confidence and a clear sense of direction. To our staff, Academies faculty, volunteers, and partners who brought this experience to life, thank you! Last week at the Thrive Academy – Chicago, hosted at the University of Chicago, our Scholars participated in a career workshop focused on building social capital and communicating their stories with confidence. They practiced crafting elevator pitches based on their goals and lived experiences, developing the skill to introduce themselves with clarity, authenticity, and purpose. Their energy, eye contact, and willingness to offer thoughtful feedback to one another demonstrated a level of professionalism far beyond their years.
