We are proud to announce that the Town of Apex has been awarded a $200,000 state grant for design and engineering services under the Great Trails State Program! This grant will help us continue to close the gaps in our greenway network. This grant will support the Reedy Branch Greenway project that includes determining the final alignment of just over 1 mile of trail and preparing engineered plans for future construction from Kelly Road, west to Goliath Lane. This segment of greenway could provide direct access to 6 residential neighborhoods and extends to the American Tobacco Trail. It is a priority corridor in the Town which improves connectivity, creates jobs, and fosters a healthy, walkable environment across the community. Beyond the support of our residents and the Apex Town Council, we'd like to give special thanks to the North Carolina General Assembly and Governor Stein for this historic investment, and to the The Great Trails State Coalition, NC State Parks, Triangle Trails Initiative, and Central Pines Regional Council for their support and advocacy in making North Carolina a national leader in greenways and trails. You can visit https://lnkd.in/eHtgZHi4 to learn more about the Reedy Branch Greenway project.

May is #BuildingSafetyMonth2025, so we’re highlighting our own Starting Lineup of building safety professionals to share more about rewarding careers in building safety. Let’s get to know our Building Inspections & Permits Department! With a combined 189 years of service with the Town, this department handles building permit requests, building plan reviews, and building code inspections. Learn more about each division through the interview questions below! Q: What is something your department does well? A: We work together really well! With a department that includes both office staff and field staff, there’s always a chance of miscommunication, but every single person in this department works hard to keep everyone in the loop, ask the right questions, and be there for each other when we need help. Q: What is a goal your department has for the year? A: Many of our office staff are working on implementing a new program that will integrate our computer systems for reviewing plans and submitting permits. This will give the public access to more information, all in one place. Our Building Code Officers are also always working toward their next level of certification, and all of them participate in ongoing training to stay up to date on the safest way to do things. Q: How many divisions does your department have? A: We have 3 divisions: Plan Review, Permitting, and Field Inspections. Q: What is one service your department provides? A: Our plan reviewers and permitting specialists are always open to questions when you’re submitting your plans and permits. We want to help you get it right so this process goes as smoothly as possible for everyone involved. Our field staff often inspect a project from start to finish so you’re working with the same person throughout - which helps streamline the entire construction process. Q: What’s a little-known fact about your team? A: Since we have such a wide-range of experience here, we have some staff that have worked for the Town longer than other people in our department have been alive! We also love celebrating accomplishments - every time someone passes a certification exam, we celebrate with a biscuit breakfast.
