"𝙔𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚. 𝙔𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚. 𝙔𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚." For years this has been my personal mantra that I'd recite to myself before high profile meetings and presentations. Those words were equal parts forcefield and reminder to self that I was worthy when my anxiety + imposter syndrome would kick in. Today, the most prestigious publication in advertising, Ad Age, is acknowledging me in their 40 under 40 honors, and it's surreal. True story: 15-years ago, I was self-funding flights across the country to Beaverton for informational interviews at the Swoosh (this was well before Zoom, lol). I remember strategically placing a print copy of Ad Age in the outer pocket of my portfolio... Just enough to let the title perfectly peak out for the recruiters to see that I was "tapped in." It was product placement back then, so to legitimately be placed within it today is mind blowing. When I started at Translation in 2011, the department I now lead didn't even exist. There's still so much work to do, but to be given the grace and trust to build brick by brick is something I do not take for granted. From summer internship to senior leadership. It's a true story. It's my story. I just hope that it serves as inspiration for other kids who might not initially feel they belong. You're supposed to be here... We're supposed to be here.
