A nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating.
About us
Founded in 1985 by Central Atlanta Progress, the Junior League of Atlanta, Inc. and the Atlanta Parks Commissioner, Trees Atlanta has been a prime force in addressing Atlanta's tree loss, creating increased green space, and conserving the city's trees. Since its beginnings, the primary goals of Trees Atlanta have been to replace trees lost to development, conserve existing trees, protect green space areas, and educate the community’s residents and workers about the many benefits of trees. These actions have resulted in Trees Atlanta becoming one of the most widely known non-profits throughout metro-Atlanta and a highly regarded community steward of our urban environment.

yay! Jacob McDonald and the Trees Atlanta team of staff and volunteers are amazing!
Planting season is officially here! At the beginning of October we kicked off a celebratory weekend with 4 projects and will be full steam ahead through March! In 2 short weeks, we have already added over 400+ new trees to the metro area’s canopy! 🌳 BUT in one short month, our annual and largest planting event, Plantlanta (!!!) will take place! Join our team Nov 7th and Nov 8th to install over 500 trees in all 12 City Council Districts of Atlanta. 🌳 Naturally, we could use a lot of volunteer help to get this done. If you’re interested in volunteering, please check out all of our planting sites on our website below! 💃🏽 https://lnkd.in/e4NNJTdu #trees #urbanforestry #communityforestry #volunteer #volunteerism #treesatlanta #atlanta #planting #environmentalism #sustainability #nonprofit

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Georgia Tech MOVE (Mobilizing Opportunities for Volunteer Experiences) as part of our Into the Streets initiative. We partnered with Trees Atlanta to plant over 50 trees in the Oakland City neighborhood! I had a great time learning about the Trees Atlanta mission and the impact that urban forestry can have on environments and neighborhoods. I recommend looking into them if you have not already! It was inspiring to work with Georgia Tech students and local leaders that are passionate about positively impacting our community! 🌱 If you’re a Georgia Tech student looking to get involved, I highly encourage checking out MOVE. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and take a much-needed break! ☀️ MOVE's Instagram: https://lnkd.in/eNc8eiTF Trees Atlanta Website: https://lnkd.in/eVvQZ9YE

40 trees 🌳 1 small ATL neighborhood 🏡 1 extraordinary organization 🌱 Several “green shirts” 💚 — seasoned Trees Atlanta volunteers whose shirts are a badge of honor, earned through hours of digging, planting, and showing up for the canopy. 30 stellar volunteers 🙌 (31 if you count the neighbor who sped up on his bike at 11 a.m. saying, “9 a.m. is just a little too early for me on a Saturday” — gloves in hand, ready to jump in. 32 if you count my husband, who showed up to dig a few huge holes before ditching out to work - that definitely saved us an additional 45 minutes and a few sore backs. 🙌) But this post isn’t just about planting trees — though planting trees is critical. It’s about something bigger: community in action. Trees do even more than cool our streets, filter the air, protect soil, and support wildlife. They also create spaces for us to connect — to each other, to nature, and to something larger than ourselves. This weekend, people from all over Atlanta showed up. 🚲 Neighbors from right down the street. 🚗 Folks who drove in from 30 minutes away. ✈️ Even someone visiting from Chicago jumped in to help. They came to plant trees. They left saying things like: ✨ “This was so much fun.” ✨ “I learned a lot.” ✨ “I can’t wait until the next one.” ✨ “I met so many cool people.” When communities plant trees, they don’t just green their own block. They create ripples — cooling cities, improving health, and weaving stronger connections across neighborhoods, regions, and beyond. Yes, trees capture carbon, reduce heat, and help us breathe. But they also remind us that we’re part of something bigger — one living, breathing ecosystem that needs every single one of us. 🌳 Imagine if we all planted a tree. The impact would be profound. Thank you Trees Atlanta for providing this service and bringing communities together. 💚Big thanks to Kelly Rojas of Trees Atlanta for your stellar organization and support in the Reynoldstown tree planting. #CommunityAction #TreePlanting #UrbanForestry #Atlanta #ClimateAction #Community #Trees #GreeningCities #Volunteer #CollectiveImpact #Trees #Nature
