  • As summer winds down, we’re reflecting on the incredible moments that brought our communities and teams together across Baltimore and Pittsburgh. From resident activities and free lunch programs to company gatherings, this season was filled with laughter, connection, and purpose. At TREK, community is our culture. These moments remind us why we do what we do - building places where people feel seen, supported, and part of something bigger. Thank you to every resident, team member, and partner who helped make this summer so special. Here’s to carrying that same spirit of connection into the seasons ahead.

  • Some big news from TREK’s development team this week! TREK has successfully closed on our last 2024 tax credit deal, HG1-Lytle in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood! HG1-Lytle will be a five-story, fifty-unit mixed-income, mixed-use community located on Lytle Street at the Hazelwood Green site in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood. HG1-Lytle will comprise the first housing development at Hazelwood Green, a 178-acre redevelopment of the former Hazelwood Coke Works plant into a state-of-the-art green innovation district and will feature a unique partnership with Pittsburgh Scholar House, a non-profit organization that provides supportive services to single parents in pursuit of higher education. Of the fifty units being constructed, forty will be affordable to households earning 60% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI). Of these affordable units, thirteen will be set-aside for participants in the Pittsburgh Scholar House program. TREK is beyond excited to be a major contributor to such a transformative redevelopment project and to provide Hazelwood Green with its first affordable housing community. Special thanks to our project partners at PNC, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, PWWG Architects, Tishman Speyer, ALMONO, Pittsburgh Scholar House, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency .

  • Huge news from TREK this week! TREK’s development team has achieved financial closing on a whopping four deals this month – all three subphases of Bedford Dwellings Phase II: Francis Street in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and the Louis A. Venson Senior Lofts in the City’s Beltzhoover neighborhood! Bedford Dwellings Phase II is TREK and the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh’s second phase of the Bedford Dwellings Hill District Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grant.  Choice Neighborhoods is an ambitious HUD initiative aimed at revitalizing distressed neighborhoods through a comprehensive transformation strategy centered around three implementation teams – People, Housing, and Neighborhood. As the lead housing implementation team for the grant, the TREK team has been working diligently on this project and is looking forward to its future development phases! This phase will consist of 180 total units, in a mix of townhomes and apartment buildings, of which 103 units will be replacement units for the residents of Bedford Dwellings as well as additional affordable and market rate units. The Dr. Louis A. Venson Senior Lofts in Beltzhoover will be a rehabilitation of the former Beltzhoover Elementary School and a new addition to create 39 units of affordable senior housing! Vacant since 2004, the elementary school has served as a community landmark for over a century and generations of families have passed through its walls. TREK is excited to breathe new life into this building and transform it into a home for generations to come. Special thanks to our project partners at Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency , PNC, RBC, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, Invest PGH, Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, First Commonwealth Bank, Dollar Bank, Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, ARMDC, Mistick Construction, WRT, and UpStreet Architects, Inc. for helping make these projects a reality!

This month TREK held manager meetings at The Rosemont in Baltimore and at Sisters of St. Joseph in Baden. These gatherings are opportunities to reflect, reconnect, and realign around what matters most: serving our residents, supporting our teams, and leading with purpose. We’re proud of the thoughtful conversations, collaborative spirit, and shared vision that emerged from both sessions. Grateful to our hosts and all who made these meetings meaningful. TREK isn’t just what we build, it’s how we show up.

Big news from TREK! 🎉 Since January, we’ve grown from 0 to 1,100 affordable and conventional units under management in Baltimore — a major milestone as we expand beyond our home base in Pittsburgh. It’s been an exciting few months of integrating teams, aligning operations, and building the TREK presence in a brand-new market. The momentum is real, and so is our commitment to delivering exceptional service and creating strong communities. We’re proud of what has been accomplished and even more excited for what’s ahead in Baltimore.

  • Last week we celebrated the completion of another phase of investment at the Washington Trust Building. The work included the conversion of 27,000 square feet of commercial office space into 25 one-bedroom apartments which complement the existing 24 apartments developed in 2019. These apartments preserve the unique historic character of the building while also providing comfortable, energy efficient living spaces. The remaining 61,000 square feet of commercial office space received HVAC upgrades, new windows, and historic masonry preservation. The crown jewel of this work is the activation of the historic bank vault floor. This “not so common space” is now an accessible amenity for building tenants to enjoy! Funding for this work was made possible by Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency , Huntington National Bank, and REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF WASHINGTON. We’re also grateful for our design and construction team, Clearscapes, PA, Lab 8, and Mistick Construction. We look forward to continued collaboration with the Washington community to celebrate and activate this historic treasure!
