In my 15+ years working in healthcare analytics, one of the most annoying things was not having access to all the terminology, value set, and reference code sets in my data warehouse. There are literally hundreds (e.g. ICD, NDC, NPI) and they are scattered all over the internet, in different file formats, updated on different frequencies. Tuva Health solves this problem. Healthcare data teams use Tuva to load all these code sets directly to their cloud data warehouse in under 5 minutes. And we maintain and update the code sets over time so you don't have to. Today we're releasing Tuva Terminology Viewer (link below) which you can use to search through any of the code sets, including prior versions. This is super useful for quickly looking up codes/descriptions and building value sets. This is all 100% free and open-source. When I first got into healthcare analytics in 2011 I was just wrapping up grad school and thought I was pretty good at data analysis. So when I started my job at Colorado Medicaid and got to work analyzing healthcare claims data I figured that pretty quickly I was going to be uncovering some pretty important things for the business--like identifying fraud, high-risk patients, high-quality providers, etc. But that dream was immediately dashed when I got access to their claims data warehouse and had no idea and no guide for how to use it. In order to do sound data analysis you need to understand: 1. The underlying data generation process 2. Methods for data transformation & preparation 3. Methods for data analysis I had a firm grasp of number 3, but the first two require deep domain expertise in healthcare and claims data. There weren't many resources available for me to learn 1 or 2, so I had to learn by doing, which took several years. It's 2025 and healthcare domain knowledge continues to be a major barrier for talented data analysts, data scientists, etc., wanting to use healthcare data to solve important problems in healthcare. That's why we're building the Tuva Health Knowledge Base -- the Khan Academy for healthcare data and analytics. Jorge (Coco) Zuloaga just published a new set of videos, diagrams, and example analytics describing methods for doing ED analytics. This code all runs out of the box if your claims data is in the Tuva data model, so you can learn on the data you're actually working with.
