Art has a unique way of helping people process difficult experiences and find meaning in them. On November 9th, we’ll gather at Lilah in Fishtown to celebrate the stories of survivors, previvors, caregivers, and artists who have been matched to create deeply personal works of art inspired by their journeys with cancer. As demand for our program grows, so does our need for support. Twist Hearts at Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School – August 21 ❤️🎨 This project has been spearheaded by Bernard Zell alumna Naomi Herman, and facilitated by Twist Out Cancer’s art therapist, Jacqueline Carmody. We will be creating individual hexagon tiles to be added to a final artwork that will live in the hallway of the school. The size of final artwork and the number of hexagon tiles completed will depend on the group size participating. Please help us reach our goal of 500 tiles! If you are unable to join us on August 21st, you may still contribute by picking up your tile or coordinating a pickup with a local friend. Directions on how to complete will be provided upon request. We will be hosting another art-making event in December! We hope to have the final artwork completed by early 2026! Who: Bernard Zell students, alum, teachers, staff, community members, friends, and family! This is a community project, and we welcome anyone who wishes to contribute to join us! Time: 7 pm - 8:30 pm Cost: $50 per hexagon tile, or $75 for 2 hexagon tiles. Questions? Meet Ileana & Caryn - proof that art can bloom from life's toughest moments. When Miami cancer survivor Ileana Cohn shared her story with artist Caryn Frishman through our Brushes with Cancer program, magic happened. "Life handed me the biggest lemon and I have been making the sweetest lemonade ever since," Ileana says. Their collaboration "Ray of Light" features a pink lotus (because it can blossom through anything), golden rays representing Ileana's infectious positivity, and two small hearts for her children.
