We are proud to introduce the Wayland E. Noland Organic Chemistry Floor at Fraser Hall, home to four state-of-the-art organic chemistry laboratories for undergraduate teaching. Today is World Mental Health Day. Nearly half of new CSE students worry about managing their mental health, sleep, or finances before they even arrive on campus. The CSE Student Mental Health Fund is helping close the gap between student needs and available support. This year, with the help of that fund, the Care Corner will serve as a “take what you need” resource space—an initiative designed to grow with continued support. The Care Corner will have a soft launch this fall, with a full rollout expected in the spring semester. The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded yesterday to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar Yaghi for the development of an architecture that some chemists compare with a molecular sponge. UMN Chemistry Prof. Theresa M. Reineke, one of Yaghi's first graduate students, was interviewed by the New York Times and Scientific American for the occasion. From graduate student to Distinguished McKnight University Professor, Prof. Reineke’s connection to this Nobel-winning work highlights the far-reaching impact of mentorship in chemistry.
