This article examines the implications of recent and proposed reductions in federal public health funding, with a focus on how these cuts disproportionately impact rural and low-resource communities. Scenario modeling reveals that a rollback to pre-COVID federal funding levels would likely leave many local jurisdictions unable to sustain core public health services, especially where local fiscal capacity is limited. https://lnkd.in/gTA2ue6v

Public health delivers big impact: every $1 invested brings back $14. But we’re facing a serious workforce gap. Even with record numbers of students earning public health degrees, too few are landing in government roles. Slow hiring, lower pay, and student debt are keeping talent away. This new study looks at the whole journey from student to local health department employee to spark solutions for building and keeping a strong public health workforce. Recruiting and keeping people in public health is still a big challenge. A new study shows that students, interns, and new hires often run into gaps when it comes to connection, mentorship, and onboarding. The takeaway? We need stronger ties between schools and health departments, more consistent internship opportunities, and clearer paths into full-time roles. https://lnkd.in/gUwsA3WD
