Historic 1914 landmark and Kansas City's most prominent destination for civic, entertainment and cultural activities

About us

Architectural Masterpiece. Living History. A place for great adventure. Where Kansas City Connects. All of these phrases and more are regularly used to describe Union Station. Visitors of all ages, from all places and for all reasons tie Union Station to special and magical moments from their lives. Union Station draws tourists from all over the world who marvel at her Grand Hall's 95-foot ceiling, three 3,500-pound chandeliers and the six-foot wide clock hanging in her central arch. She wakes up early and stays up late to host business meetings, civic events, weddings and celebrations of all sorts. And that’s just the beginning. Just as you could 100 years ago, you can still catch the train at Union Station's AMTRAK stop and head out across the country. You'll also find traveling exhibits produced by the Smithsonian, National Geographic and other international organizations, a Planetarium, an interactive science center Science City, and a vibrant Theater District featuring the region's biggest movie screen, live theatre, and so much more. The Station is also home to two of KC's finest restaurants, Harvey's and Pierponts, as well as Parisi Artisan Coffee, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, the Kansas City Store, and Science City Store. Make a day of it at the Station! There's so much for the entire family to SEE and DO!

From behind-the-scenes support to helping in Science City, assisting guests, supporting exhibits and special events, operating our beloved Model Train Gallery, and in many more ways. Union Station is an architectural treasure, but it has always been the people who have given this historic landmark a heart. Today, we shine a light on one of the Volunteer Ambassadors, Patrick McTee. Since 2021, Patrick has volunteered over 1,600 hours.  He comes from a railroad family (Nebraska - Union Pacific) and is a big fan of architecture, so Union Station was a natural fit when he started looking to volunteer.  Patrick also believes in the role Union Station plays in the Kansas City community and enjoys being able to participate in the various community events the Station hosts. A perk of volunteering at "where the city celebrates" is being able to interact with local and out-of-town guests and share what Kansas City has to offer. • Thank you, The Science of Guinness World Record sponsors! As we prepare for the opening of Union Station's next world-class exhibition, Titanic: An Immersive Voyage, we want to thank the sponsors of our spring and summer exhibit, The Science of Guinness World Records. Attended by more than 50,000 people, the exhibit highlighted fascinating stories of amazing record-breakers and explored the science behind their mesmerizing accomplishments. It also challenged guests through fun interactive games and installations, and gave every guest the opportunity to set a world record of their own! The Science of Guinness World Records was presented at Union Station by Thrivent and supported by JE Dunn Construction, the City of Kansas City, MO Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund, and Science City. Our thanks to each of these sponsors for helping bring this hands-on family-fun experience to Union Station.
