October 16 marks 138 years since United Way was founded. In 1887, a woman, a priest, two ministers, and a rabbi gathered in Denver, Colorado, united by a belief that communities can do more good by working together. That idea became United Way, a network now spanning 1,100+ communities across more than 30 countries and territories, reaching 95% of the U.S. This anniversary isn’t just a milestone, but a reminder that transformation is essential to impact. We continue to meet people where they are and evolve as times change. 💙 As we honor 138 years of service and community, we invite you to take a moment to watch the video and see how United Way has transformed through time. United, is the Way. #FoundingDay #UnitedWay #UnitedIsTheWay

  • United Way of Dane County thanks the We Energies Foundation for their generous grant for Reducing School Mobility (RSM). The Reducing School Mobility collaborative, led by United Way of Dane County since 2014, exists to prevent families with school-aged children from becoming homeless. The program helps families at risk of losing their housing remain stable and ensures children can avoid disruptive school moves that harm their education. RSM is a partnership between United Way of Dane County, Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin (CAC), Stoughton Area Resource Team (START) and WayForward Resources. Since it began, RSM has helped 1,140 families with 2,837 children to remain stable in their housing and schools. #PowerofCaringWorkingforAll

  • At United Way, we help young people realize their full potential by breaking down barriers to success. Through our Plan for Community Well-Being Youth Opportunity impact area and partnerships like the Children’s Dyslexia Center (CDC), we foster the skills and confidence students need to succeed. One recent graduate shared how the program opened new doors for her: "Once I started in the CDC program, I realized that I had the option to learn how to live with dyslexia and grow my skills in reading and writing… I realized there was a whole world of excitement and imagery waiting for me within the pages of books.” She graduated with a 3.7 GPA, was part of National Honor Society and takes with her the love for learning. We’re proud to invest in strategies and programs that improve lives and foster a future where every young person can realize their dreams.
