UM Health West will begin offering MyHPVscore, a first of its kind blood test that can detect HPV related head and neck cancer using fragments of tumor DNA in the bloodstream. This noninvasive tool has the potential to help identify cancer earlier, monitor treatment response and detect recurrence before symptoms or imaging changes occur. Meet members of the new UM Health-West K9 Security Team. Our K9 security officers begin serving in late October. But before then, we’re introducing the handlers and their partners. This week we highlight Isaiah Sandretto and Cisa. Isaiah has five years of service in the Army National Guard as a military police officer and also brings experience in home construction. Cisa is the only female of the group. Isaiah describes her as caring and independent, with playful bursts of energy. Their bond grows stronger each day, and Isaiah is excited to see how patients and staff benefit from the program.

After recent headlines suggested a link between Tylenol use in pregnancy and autism, Dr. Brad Irving, OB/GYN at UM Health-West, urges patients to stay grounded in science. “We go through a lot of effort to try to provide medically accurate information,” he says. “The key is to not panic… use good, reputable science.” Current research does not support a direct connection.
