Upham’s Community Care was proud to stand alongside the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers on Beacon Hill today. Our CEO, Jagdeep Trivedi, provided testimony highlighting the urgent need for sustainable and equitable commercial reimbursement rates for community health centers. As Jay noted, underpayment from commercial payers undermines access to care, limits workforce retention, and strains the very systems designed to serve our most vulnerable populations. Establishing a PPS floor for commercial payers would be a critical step toward stabilizing operations and ensuring health access for all Massachusetts residents. We thank the League and our fellow community health centers for their leadership and collaboration in advancing this essential policy effort. #HealthEquity #CommunityHealth #Policy #Advocacy #BeaconHill #MassLeague #UphamsCommunityCare
A busy morning on Beacon Hill for our community health center leaders. Mass League President and CEO Michael Curry, Esq., Jagdeep Trivedi, CEO of Upham's Community Care, and Bethany Kieley, MBA, CEO of Community Health Programs, Inc. testified before the Joint Committee on Financial Services in support of H1096/S711, An Act Relative to Rate Equity in for Community Health Centers. A special thank you to Rep. Natalie M. Blais, lead sponsor of the legislation, for her testimony as well. Community health centers provide high-quality care and services to our most vulnerable residents, but do so on razor thin margins that make it difficult to invest in talent retention, facility upgrades, and technologies that benefit patients. One major reason is that commercial health insurers reimburse CHCs for services for less than the MassHealth rate and less than they do for the same care provided by private practices. Not only is this unfair, it contributes to inequitable access to primary care for our most underserved communities. This has to change. This legislation mandates that commercial insurers reimburse community health centers for services at the same rate that MassHealth does. Not only will this support our CHC's financial stability, it will enable them to better meet the needs of their patients and communities - all at no cost to the state.
