🔔 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞: The SBIR/STTR topics scheduled to open tomorrow will instead remain in pre-release. This change is due to the pending congressional reauthorization of the SBIR and STTR programs, which is set to expire next Tuesday (Sept. 30). Once reauthorization occurs, the Department anticipates the SBIR BAA 25.4 Release 12 & STTR BAA 25.D Release 12 topics (below) will open on the first Wednesday following reauthorization. Closing dates will be extended to ensure a four-week open period for proposal submissions. #SBIR #STTR #SmallBusinessFunding #Innovation

Last week, our District Director Steve Dixel hosted a visit of two small businesses who received U.S. Small Business Administration financing assistance through the 504-loan program. Joining the visit was SBA Mid-Atlantic Region Regional Administrator Jim Spencer along with National Rural Affairs Advocate Joe Knilans, Office of Advocacy; Director of Rural Affairs Richard Kingan, Office of Entrepreneurial Development; National Ombudsman Robert Bolen; Mid-Atlantic Regional Advocate Elmo Rinaldi, Office of Advocacy; Office of Government Contracting & Business Special Assistant Kennedy Smallwood; Eastern PA Deputy District Director Michael Kane; EDC Lancaster County President Ezra Rothman and Operations Manager Leigh Bardell. The group received a tour of NHT Logistics from CEO George Weaver, who is a third-generation family-owned small business located in rural Denver, PA. NHT Logistics provides transportation and storage solutions throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The next stop on the rural small business tour was Fox Meadows Creamery, located in rural Leola, to meet with Chad Fox, one of the owners of the family-owned business. The crops, cows, and milk are all grown and processed into ice cream on the family farm.

SBA Atlantic Region (NY, NJ, PR, USVI) Administrator Matt Coleman joined Administrator Kelly Loeffler of the U.S. Small Business Administration at Mike's Deli The Original Arthur Avenue Italian Deli, an iconic establishment in The Bronx that's been family-owned & operated for more than 80 years. Originally founded by Mike Greco, a Calabrian immigrant from Italy, the legendary deli is now run by his son David after Mike's passing in 2019. Administrator Loeffler & Regional Administrator Coleman spoke with small business owners in the Arthur Avenue Marketplace like David - many of whom have seen generations of family members put in long hours of hard work to get ahead - about what entrepreneurs today need in order to succeed.

Last week, the SBA Minnesota District Office proudly recognized ten lending institutions that have contributed to Minnesota’s robust SBA lending ecosystem. In the past several years, Minnesota has boasted one of the highest number of active SBA lenders in the country. These lenders go above and beyond to support small business owners across the state—helping them access the capital they need to start, grow, and thrive. The lender awards ceremony was held during the Minnesota Small Business Lenders Conference, which was co-hosted by Minnesota Bankers Association and BankIn Minnesota and drew 300 people. The conference’s keynote speaker was Associate Administrator Thomas Kimsey, who leads the SBA Office of Capital Access. SBA Great Lakes Region Administrator Everett M. Woodel, Jr., MBA, also traveled to Minnesota to join District Director Brian McDonald and the Minnesota team.
