As we gear up for the summer tourism season in North Carolina, that's truer than ever as we continue encouraging visitors to check out everything that Western North Carolina offers. The overwhelming majority of the region's tourism economy is open for business after last fall's storm, and we're doing our part to make sure potential visitors both inside and outside North Carolina are aware. In fact, we're helping get the word out about "WNC Open for Business Week," which kicks off today as an initiative led by the Western North Carolina Chamber Business Coalition and involving partners like the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. We're excited to announce that our spooky campaign "First in Fright" earned a Gold Honor in the Travel & Tourism category at the 17th Annual Shorty Awards! The Shorty Awards is an international competition that honors the best work across digital and social platforms. Launched in September 2024, First in Fright brought the spooky spots and stories from across North Carolina to life across web, social, email and podcast content. This evergreen campaign has not only staked North Carolina’s claim as a paranormal travel destination, but also deepened affinity among a new niche of travelers. It was a record year for tourism and its impact across the state, which is still the 5th most visited state in the country!
