San Antonio is a city where the voices and heritage of the tribes, whose spirits are embedded in the very foundation of our city, are uplifted.   On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which is also recognized as Columbus Day, we celebrate those who came before us and honor their legacy from the land we walk on to the cultural traditions that continue to shape and define our community. Today marks the beginning of Spirit Season in San Antonio, in honor of Dia de los Muertos. With its deep cultural roots, #SanAntonio hosts the nation’s largest Día de los Muertos celebrations with over two dozen signature events blending heartfelt tradition with festive spectacle. From San Antonio's unique Day of the Dead River Parade and Muertos Fest at Hemisfair, which attracts more than 100,000 visitors, to “Altares y Ofrendas” at Centro Cultural Aztlan, now in its 48th year, and Día de los Muertos at the Missions, occurring at Texas’ only UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Antonio stands as the top U.S. destination to celebrate the moving and colorful cultural tradition. Making the season more special, San Antonio sits in the heart of the monarch butterfly migration to Mexico—symbolizing the spirits of loved ones returning home.   That connection between #nature, #culture and #community makes our city the top destination to honor this beautiful tradition. As National Celebrate Services Week comes to a close, Visit San Antonio offers heartfelt thanks to our event services professionals, whose #creativity and hard work bring our city’s events to life. On Wednesday, our Destination Experience team proudly recognized event service professionals from across the city with a breakfast at the Briscoe Western Art Museum. This annual gathering brought together more than 150 industry professionals to celebrate and honor The Art of Event Services. Special guest speaker Andi (Andrea) Rodriguez, Vice President of Cultural Placemaking at Centro San Antonio, delivered an inspiring message on the transformative power of #art and its role in shaping a city’s identity and sense of place. Fifteen outstanding nominees were recognized for their exceptional contributions to event services, and the celebration was brought to life with local art installations and a live bluebonnet painting experience. The highlight of the morning was the presentation of the Event Service Professional of the Year award to Traycie Williams of Courtyard by Marriott on the Riverwalk. Traycie will join the Visit San Antonio Destination Experience team at the 2026 ESPA Annual Meeting in Arlington in January.
