We’re #WellSpanProud to support organizations like the DIG Furniture Bank in Milton, Pa., who are supporting our community by filling homes of those in need with essential furniture at no cost. DIG’s Good Night’s Sleep Fund received a WellSpan Spark Grant to provide 20 beds to residents securing permanent housing or who lacked the resources to purchase a bed on their own. The grant impacted more than 50 individuals in need. DIG is short for “dignity” — the core value that guides the organization’s work. “We want to make sure we help individuals choose items for their home that reflect who they are to help boost their confidence while promoting stability,” said Emily Gorski, founder and executive director of DIG. “People will bring in plant clippings and smaller decorations for clients too. It’s the little things that can make a big difference.” Last year, WellSpan supported more than 60 impact-driven initiatives aligned with the WellSpan Community Health Improvement Plan. “When you feel good about your surroundings and your environment, it helps you feel good about yourself, gives you confidence and the desire to strive for a better life,” said Sheila Packer, community health lead coordinator at WellSpan Health. “As WellSpan continues its strong commitment to supporting housing needs in our community, partners like DIG stand out and drive our mission of creating healthier communities and opportunity for all.” Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eFHwVQvR

After losing their daughter, Leah, to fentanyl poisoning in 2018, Mike and Robin Straley wanted to keep her memory alive while supporting others. The couple has served more than 1,100 individuals in need over the last 6 years through Leah's Legacy — an organization focused on supporting women who are in recovery from substance abuse. Leah’s Legacy is the recent recipient of a WellSpan Summit Endowment grant, using the funds to expand their services to support more women at Leah’s Gathering Center, where individuals meet to receive recovery support. “This program is about saving lives,” says Mike. “We couldn’t save our daughter’s life but we’re trying to now help save any many others as we can. We’re taking our pain and turning it into passion – turning misery into a mission. It’s a tribute to Leah. She’s no longer here physically but we know she’s still with us.” More than $464,000 were awarded to 14 WellSpan Summit Endowment grants in June. Grants are awarded to community projects that advance our Community Health Improvement Plan. “WellSpan has provided so much support to our organization over the last few years,” says Mike. “To see everything come together and grow has been phenomenal. It takes a village to do this work and help our community.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eREKhsmn

A new lens to view the future WellSpan York Hospital Surgical and Critical Care Tower! Last month, WellSpan team members, leadership, local officials and community members gathered to celebrate the next milestone in the future WellSpan York Hospital Surgical and Critical Care Tower. Attendees signed the final beam and watched as it ascended into place and was installed by our construction team. They also had a new view of the space through the use of Google Cardboard lenses. The lenses allow our team to upload high quality renderings of the future space, in which they can navigate and learn about the new resource coming soon to York that will deliver transformational care.
