  • Yesterday at one of our Brooklyn shelters, we were proud to welcome Speaker Adrienne Adams and members of the NYC Council Women’s Caucus to announce an unprecedented $668,000 in funding for Win.   At a time when the federal government is shut down and threatening deep cuts to the housing safety net, this local investment is a lifeline for the families we serve. This funding will support Win’s essential programming and shelter services — from trauma-informed care training, which offers both general and specialized training for working with children, to income-building resources for mothers.   As Speaker Adams said, “Our entire city benefits when we support women, who are the backbone of our families and the cornerstone of our communities.” We couldn’t agree more.   We are deeply grateful to the Speaker, Deputy Speaker Diana Ayala, the Women’s Caucus, and the NYC Council for stepping up when it matters most, and for making clear that New York City is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness for families.   Read Win's full press release: https://lnkd.in/efUzxBfT   Read Win's PIX11 feature: https://lnkd.in/esM_xFr6   Photo Credit: Emil Cohen/NYC Council Media Unit

  • As the government shutdown continues, another crisis looms for millions of New Yorkers: deep, dangerous budget cuts proposed by the Trump Administration. At Win, we’re facing the potential loss of 28% of our supportive housing budget — a devastating blow that would put thousands of families at risk of losing not just their homes, but also access to essentials like healthcare, food, and safety. “The consequences of the Trump administration’s proposed budget would do irreparable harm to millions of New York families and would plunge our state, and states across the nation, into a fiscal and humanitarian disaster.” — Christine Quinn, President & CEO of Win. We urge federal leaders to negotiate in good faith — and to prioritize the most basic needs of families who are already struggling. Lives, and futures, are on the line. • The Trump FY26 budget proposes cutting $4.5 billion from housing programs in New York City, putting support for over one million residents at risk. These cuts threaten NYCHA, Section 8 vouchers, and affordable housing programs that prevent homelessness. Congress must hear from us. Contact your representatives today and urge them to reject these devastating cuts and protect housing for New Yorkers. https://lnkd.in/ey4UqhHf

  • On Monday, Win published our latest report: The Cost of Cuts: The FY26 Federal Budget, Disinvestment & the Rising Risk of Family Homelessness in New York. The findings are grim: - 1.5 million New Yorkers are at risk of losing health coverage. - 1 million people—including 363,000 children— could lose access to SNAP benefits. - More than 1 million New Yorkers who depend on Section 8 and other housing supports could face heightened risk of eviction. Behind these statistics are real consequences: children going without food, parents struggling to keep their homes, families losing the stability every child deserves. With 105,000 New Yorkers—including 36,000 children—already sleeping in shelters each night, the proposed cuts would be devastating. • This morning, Win released a new report with urgent recommendations on how New York can protect families from the devastating impact of federal cuts to housing, food, and health care. Without action, these cuts will push more families into homelessness and deepen the housing crisis across our state. As highlighted in City & State, our report shows that the federal “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and proposed FY26 budget could result in the loss of $4.5 billion in housing funding, strip over 280,000 New Yorkers of food assistance, and jeopardize Medicaid coverage for up to 1.5 million people. To meet this moment, we joined advocates and service providers at a rally on the steps of City Hall, calling on New York’s leaders to invest in the social safety net and ensure families have the resources they need to remain safely housed. Later in the day, the New York City Council held an oversight hearing on the consequences of these federal cuts. One of Win’s residents, who currently lives in supportive housing, shared a powerful testimony about how programs like SNAP and rental assistance have been instrumental in her family’s journey toward stability. Her story reflects what we see every day at Win: social safety net programs are a lifeline for families navigating housing insecurity. We’re calling on leaders at every level of government to act now to protect and expand these supports. • On September 25, Win’s AVP of Policy & Advocacy, Chris Mann, will join fellow advocates, policymakers, and thought leaders at the SEEN II Symposium in Washington Heights to advance bold, inclusive strategies for sustainable housing solutions. This critical conversation will center on the intersection of immigration, housing affordability, and crisis response — recognizing that secure housing is not just a policy issue, but a human right. We’re proud to contribute to this solutions-driven dialogue aimed at building a more equitable future for all New Yorkers. • One of our Brooklyn sites is now home to a powerful new mural, Roses for Rosa, inspired by the life and legacy of Rosa Parks. Created in collaboration with Medium Tings and artist Dana Robinson, the mural is a tribute to the strength, dignity, and resistance that guide our mission to support families experiencing homelessness in New York City. Special thanks to Medium Tings for their partnership and support in bringing this vision to life 🧡
