On Saturday, August 16, I’ll be producing and performing in a special reading of Gem of the Ocean by August Wilson at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. This event is both a celebration and a fundraiser supporting the future of bold, relevant, and necessary Black storytelling. I’m honored to have an extraordinary cast that includes friends J. Shawn Durham, Micha Green, and my church member Dr. T. Dewayne Cash, under the direction of Nicole Brewer. I’m also grateful to my friend Christopher Coes for joining the creative team. If you can, join us in person or consider making a donation or sponsoring a youth ticket so the next generation can experience the power of August Wilson’s words. 📍 Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Washington, DC 📆 Saturday, August 16 🎭 Reading: 1:00 PM | VIP Reception: 12:00 PM 🎟️ Details & tickets: https://shorturl.at/ox9f8

So, it’s really happening—I’m turning 60 and stepping onto the stage. For the first time outside of church plays and divinity school, I’ll be acting in a staged reading of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean—my favorite play by my favorite playwright. It’s bold, meaningful, and a little scary. And it’s for a good cause. This special event benefits Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, an institution known for bold, relevant, and necessary storytelling—and dare I say, woke theater. I’m deeply grateful to Kimberly Douglass and her phenomenal team at Woolly for turning a dream into reality. The production is directed by the extraordinary Nicole Brewer (Yale School of Drama) and features the brilliant Justin Weaks, Professor Kim Bey, and more to be announced. 📍 Woolly Mammoth Theatre | 641 D St NW, Washington, DC 📆 Saturday, August 16 🎉 VIP Reception: 12:00 PM 🎭 Reading: 1:00 PM (Doors open at 12:30 PM) We must support theater and the arts now more than ever. The stories told on our stages shape the conscience of our communities. Help me mark 60 years with love, community, and purpose. Let’s honor August Wilson, uplift Black storytelling, and invest in the future of transformative theater. 🎟️ Tickets available now: https://shorturl.at/ox9f8
