🌏This #WorldCitiesDay, we’re spotlighting the Asia-Pacific — one of the world’s fastest-growing regions. As cities expand, so does the demand for energy and sustainable infrastructure. An estimated US$1.5 trillion is needed each year in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve sustainable energy transitions. The good news? The solutions already exist across every sector. From clean energy to nature-based solutions, we have the tools to realign with 1.5°C and create a more resilient, sustainable world. 📘 Read more in WWF’s Asia-Pacific context paper ahead of COP30: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gFb5S9rZ

In Laos, communities are weaving a future where people and forests thrive together. 🌿 Through the WWF and IKEA partnership, non-timber forest products like rattan and bamboo have become sources of income and pride, helping women like Ms. Jay and her daughter turn traditional skills into sustainable livelihoods. 👉 Learn how responsible forest management is helping over 1,500 households and protecting 30,000 hectares of forest: https://lnkd.in/ghingkP3 #ResponsibleForestManagement #WWF #IKEA

A historic milestone for global biodiversity: the UN Biodiversity new permanent body - the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) - just met for the first time in Panama, giving Indigenous Peoples and local communities a lasting voice in shaping how the world protects nature.
A big milestone this week in the UN System. The first ever meeting of the new Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) (yes, it’s a mouthful) just kicked off this week here in Panama. Many people familiar with the UN system but outside the conservation sector don’t know about this, so here’s my attempt to spread the word. This new body under the UN Biodiversity Convention is meant to give Indigenous Peoples and local communities a real and permanent voice in how global biodiversity decisions are made. It replaces the old temporary working group that took almost three decades(!) of negotiations and advocacy to get here. It’s a historic step, the result of years of effort from Indigenous leaders and allies who pushed for something more lasting than consultations or side events (hello UNFCCC). For the first time, their knowledge and rights are formally embedded in the decision-making structure of the Convention itself. It’s not perfect, and the hard work starts this week but it’s a genuine shift in how the system sees and values Indigenous and community leadership in protecting nature. A small WWF delegation is here in Panama, ready to support where we can. Cristina Eghenter Harry Jonas Rea Nepravishta #CBD #SB8J #InclusiveConservation #IndigenousRights #Biodiversity

Indigenous leaders and community members across the Pacific are uniting and raising a powerful collective voice for nature. 🌊 Oceania First Voices (OFV) unites Indigenous leaders from across the Pacific in a regional alliance. Representatives of the OFV speak on behalf of their communities on national, regional and international stages to advocate for climate justice, equity, inclusion, and a rights and nature-based response to dealing with the climate change and biodiversity crises. 👉 Read more about the inspiring stories of Indigenous leaders protecting their home with wisdom, courage, and hope. https://lnkd.in/ecxFtTY3 WWF-Pacific, Alfred Iane Ralifo

Over 50% of Asia-Pacific’s economy depends on nature – yet fertile soils, clean water and climate stability are increasingly at risk. The case of acacia plantations in Viet Nam shows how investing in responsible sourcing can strengthen supply chains, support local livelihoods and help restore nature. 🌳 Resilience starts at the source. Businesses that invest in responsible supply chains today will be the ones thriving tomorrow. 👉 Read more about how WWF and IKEA are driving momentum and inspiring others to join this journey: https://lnkd.in/gZBx8Qy2 #ResponsibleForestry Mikhail Tarasov

60% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions are generated in Asia-Pacific, with an annual growth rate of 2% since 2010. This is a result of heavy reliance on fossil fuels, rapid urbanization, rising standards of living and expanding mobility needs in the region. We urge governments to phase out fossil fuels in NDCs to unlock growth, jobs, and clean innovation. It’s #FreshwaterDolphinDay! Let’s celebrate the incredible efforts to protect the Mekong’s Irrawaddy dolphins and the people who safeguard their river home.
Smile for the Mekong! Just like humans love taking selfies, our Mekong dolphins will soon have their own way of capturing stunning moments in the river! Starting early next year, a camera attached to a concrete pole will help monitor dolphins as part of a conservation project. This technology will allow authorities to track dolphin movements and river activities, especially illegal fishing, through real-time video from drones and automatic cameras, reducing the need for extensive river patrols. This Dolphin Day (24 October), let’s celebrate the actions we are taking to protect the Mekong Irrawaddy dolphins, keeping their smiles and presence alive in the Mekong, a national living treasure of Cambodia. #DolphinDay #MekongDolphins #ProtectWildlife #CambodiaNature #LivingTreasures #ConservationAction #SaveTheDolphins #MekongRiver #WildlifeProtection #NatureHeritage
