Big financing updates for CT life sciences coming out of New Haven this week. 👇 Brain disease research startup Bexorg, Inc. has raised $23 million in Series A funding to enhance its AI engine and accelerate drug discovery and development programs. Using donated human brains, Bexorg restores key molecular activities to better test potential drug candidates, paving the way for new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Biopharmaceutical company Veradermics has secured a $150 million Series C financing round to advance clinical trials for VDPHL01, its investigational therapy for androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss). This support marks an important milestone toward delivering new solutions for one of the most common forms of hair loss in both men and women. Right on the heels of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s New Haven cluster award announcement, this is an exciting moment for the city’s growing life sciences ecosystem — and a testament to the groundbreaking innovation happening right here in Connecticut. Introducing C2S-Scale 27B, our new Gemma open model that can translate complex single-cell gene expression data into “cell sentences” that LLMs can understand. ⚕️ https://goo.gle/47e7tTS The 27B model, built for single-cell analysis using the Gemma family of open models, has identified a novel cancer therapy pathway that’s been validated experimentally in living cells. A major challenge in cancer treatment is that some tumors are invisible to the body’s immune system. C2S was able to predict a drug that would positively boost immune signals, and showed a potential pathway to make tumors more responsive to immunotherapy.
