I just outlined a practical way to turn a vague idea—“how curvy is this road?”—into a measurable feature for accident-risk modeling. This is part of my work for the current Kaggle Playground “Predicting Road Accident Risk” competition and leverages code and concepts from my Roadrunner app. If you’re hiring for roles that blend GIS, Python, and ML feature engineering, this post shows how I approach ambiguous requirements and land on production-ready signals. Using the Mapbox Directions API, I extract each route’s polyline, reproject it to the correct UTM CRS for accurate geometry in meters, compute angles along the path, and reduce them to a single curviness score normalized from 0.0 (straight) to 1.0 (very curvy). Tested on three real routes—DFW (mostly straight), Pikes Peak (twisty), and a highly winding Idaho segment—the method produced curviness scores of 0.156, 0.523, and 0.777, respectively. The Pano Loader now uses OpenCV to intelligently stitch multiple images together, which means no more visible seams and much better perspective. It's perfect for creating those ultra-wide, cinematic scenes that are tricky to get from a single prompt. My New Project: Real-Time Pose Estimation in Python! Just finished building a reusable Pose Estimation module, and the real-time performance is incredible! 🏃♂️✨ This project was a great dive into computer vision, using Python, OpenCV, and Google's MediaPipe to create a plug-and-play module. It processes a video stream and pinpoints the coordinates for all 33 body landmarks. Key Features: 🚀 Real-Time Tracking: Smooth performance on standard video files or a webcam feed. 🧩 Modular Design: Encapsulated in a PoseEstimationModule class for easy integration into larger applications. 🎯 High-Fidelity Tracking: Utilizes MediaPipe's robust machine learning model to track the full human skeleton. This is a crucial foundational block for more complex projects in human-computer interaction and fitness technology. It's the core computer vision engine that will power the form analysis and rep-counting features in my AI Gym Trainer application.
