You're striving for sustainability in your organization. How do you win over skeptical key stakeholders?
Make the business case - always. No matter the department, advantages abound - C-Suite: cost savings, business risk mitigation, supply chain resilience, talent attraction/retention. Marketing/Media Relations: storytelling, broader coverage, brand differentiator (and if you don't act quickly, the differentiation is that you haven't kept pace with the world). Operations (see C-Suite.) Financials are the language we all speak and must all translated our innovation proposals into, so use it. Don't count on vague, altruistic benefits to do the 'sales' job when selling change management

How can you identify greenwashing in marketing campaigns?
Is the topic something "material" to the company's business? Or does it feel like a stretch that they are weighing in on it with a feel-good ad campaign or project? Have they delved into the 'why' of how they chose to engage on the topic (environmental, social, economic)? Has the organization they have partnered with spoken up about the support? Are they rolling out a campaign ahead of actually realizing any results (emissions reduction, lives improved)? A solid impact campaign will provide deeper reasoning, proof of impact and should have laid down a track record of at least a year before leveraging a partnership (NGO, sport, culture) for communications. A rush to the megaphone ahead of driving change for the better is a red flag.

Equal Play gives girls the opportunity to play with their female peers in a positive and encouraging environment. The program is designed to:
improve girls’ physical activity and fitness levels and their sense of well-being;
increase girls’ physical literacy and set them up to make healthy lifestyle choices;
empower girls, increasing their self-confidence through the playing of a physically engaging sport;
provide girls with an opportunity to be part of a sports league — particularly girls who otherwise would be unable to play a sport outside of school, due to financial, cultural or other constraints;
mentor girls, giving them an opportunity to gain leadership, teamwork and social inclusion skills, as well as the confidence to become sports leaders. While girls and women account for about 47% of registered soccer players in Canada, less than 1% of paid leadership positions are held by women. -
