“Having a supervisor as special as Andrea is a rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. During the two years I had the joy of reporting to her, I felt seen, valued, and cared for. Andrea's investment in my professional growth was both motivating and encouraging. She found the perfect balance between affirming my ideas and highlighting my accomplishments, while also pushing me to continue growing. She is approachable, and I always felt comfortable discussing challenges with her, knowing she would coach me through it by asking the right questions and helping me think through possible outcomes. Andrea's organizational skills and strength in building systems is inspiring, and helped make my work more focused and effective. Her high-level planning spreadsheets and examples ensured our efforts aligned with the main priorities of our university, maximizing our impact. Her advice on strengthening my own methods of organizing work among collaborators was incredibly helpful, and she strengthened my abilities to build agendas and facilitate meetings keeping groups focused on the main purpose, outcomes, and processes. What truly sets Andrea apart is her deep sense of care for those around her. In our one-on-one meetings, she always checked in on my needs as a whole person, building a genuine relationship of mutual trust and understanding. I’ve seen Andrea be vulnerable in a professional manner, and it’s something I admire about her. My years with Andrea as a supervisor are times that I will look back on as highlights of my career. I am beyond grateful for Andrea's influence on my professional journey, and I’m confident that her future direct reports will benefit from her exceptional leadership.”

Accepted by Social Justice Fund Northwest into a six-month cross-race and -class social justice giving project cohort of 13 people from across a 5-state region in the Northwest. As framed by SJF: "Giving Projects are a unique, participatory model of funding that provides significant financial resources to grassroots organizing for long-term progressive social change. Giving Projects bring together a diverse group of people of varied class identities who are passionate about social change and want to strengthen their skills in fundraising, grantmaking, and community building. Participants work together to deepen their understanding of social justice principles and engage in collective giving and fundraising to support grassroots organizations."
As part of my participation, I:
- Completed ~150 hours of work, learning and community organizing.
- Learned from fellow participants, facilitators and presenters.
- Deepened my understanding of environmental justice, racial justice and class dynamics.
- Learned and unlearned beliefs about race, class, money and what I was capable of.
- Made a personally meaningful gift (our largest to date).
- Conducted frontline fundraising, exceeding initial personal goals by 58% and 100% (funds raised, people asked), and contributing to a total of $300k raised by our 13-person cohort.
- Reviewed and scored 20 grant applications, participating in an equitable collective decision-making granting process, and ultimately being part of funding eight organization with $50k 2-year unrestricted grants. -

Through reading, reflection, action, accountability small groups and ~2x/month meetings, we used the time to be focused and honest about our racial equity struggles and mistakes, access to authentic relationships with other women on the same journey to learn and grow with, a grounding in community-centered principles, and dedicated time to focus on community-centered principles, analyzing our relationships while also considering ways to implement change within our work.

Millennial and GenZ's “coming of age” has led to a widespread decline in alumni participation, as well as concerns about a potential “lost generation” of major donors. However, all is not lost! This generation will be the beneficiaries of the largest transfer of wealth in human history. And according to numerous surveys and studies, between 80% and 90% of Millennials give to charitable organizations each year.
The presenters will review nine characteristics of Millennials and post-Millennials that drive much of their behavior and highlight actionable tactics to increase this population’s philanthropic engagement.
Felicity Meu will illuminate the case study with data drawn from digital fundraising of 700+ schools.
Andrea Michelbach and Jayne Berglund will share how Pacific Lutheran University leveraged social media volunteers (and so much more) to engage millennials in a new and energizing way during PLU's Day of Giving in October.

SESSION DESCRIPTION: Within the field, it is widely acknowledged that museums can have a positive influence on public well-being — even being “happiness engineers,” as Jane McGonigal says. As museum professionals, we want to — and believe we can — make the world a better place through our institutions.
But at the same time, we’re experiencing a “more, faster, better” climate like we never have before. We find ourselves sometimes scrambling to adjust practices to meet the rapid pace of change – and we’re losing people, or burning them out, along the way. How do we continue to strive for innovation, while also maintaining our sanity and the sustainability of our workforce?
Come reflect about the well-being of museum staff and what happiness can do for you. After short presentations, participants will create individual happiness inventories, mapping their own course from personal well-being to meaningful, sustainable, and innovative work. Groups will then share some of the happiness highs and lows of museum work, practical ways to cultivate better well-being, and action steps they want to take when they return to their institutions.
