How do you identify and remove outliers in demand forecasting data?
In the example above where a drop in demand was due to a data error the use of Bayesian Inference or Bayesian Probability can be used to smooth the demand curve. However note, discovering a drop in demand like this may be a signal that an out-of-stock has occured, or even worse inventory was at the location however it was sitting in the back warehouse and not out on the selling floor.

How do you test your demand forecasting models?
Hindcasting or Backtesting is a great method to validate your forecasts. If you are able to successfully quantify and extrapolate each individual demand driver coefficient, you can use Hindcasting to run a forecast, where you already know the outcome, then you validate how well your model matched the actual outcome. After completing your MAPE analysis you'll have insight on how accurate your forecasts models are to future outcomes and if anything needs to be tweaked.
