A prominent but largely vacant Birmingham office building traded hands in a sale earlier this month. An affiliate of the Chinese government-owned automaker and supplier SAIC Motor sold the 41,000-square-foot building at 322 N. Old Woodward Ave. to an entity tied to Birmingham developer Doraid Markus for $18 million, according to city staff in the Treasury Department. The July 15 sale was between SAIC Property Management LLC and Woodward Oakland Partners LLC, registered to Markus, staff said. At approximately $439 per square foot, it’s one of the highest per-square-foot sales in downtown Birmingham in the last 15 years, according to data from CoStar Group Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based real estate information service.  SAIC is among the largest automakers in China and maintains a key joint venture with General Motors to sell vehicles in Asia. GM sales have declined steeply in China in recent years as homegrown automakers gobble up more of the market share once owned by the Detroit 3. A great #EV news story in the U.S. - record sales and vehicle price parity in July! Here are some great stats from Cox Automotive: 🚗 Consumers purchased ~130,100 new EVs in July, the second-highest monthly sales tally on record; a 26.4% increase from June and nearly 20% increase year-over-year 🚘 The share of new EV sales in July accounted for about 9.1% of total sales of passenger vehicles - the largest monthly share on record 🚎 Nearly 36,700 used EVs sold in July, a record monthly high 🚙 The average transaction price for all new passenger vehicles (aside from battery electric vehicles) in July was $48,078; the average for new EVs was $55,689 before dealer incentives and tax credits; with the federal tax credit the EV was at price parity - around $48,189 https://lnkd.in/eCGyZSZ3

Rivian is suing Ohio’s DMV over their selective ban on car companies selling directly to consumers. The lawsuit argues that it: - decreases competition - reduces consumer choice - creates an unfair playing field since Tesla is allowed to sell its vehicles directly Washington is another state that has a similar ban, but allows Tesla to sell directly. https://lnkd.in/g79JDt3D
