“To whom it may concern: When I started at Shutterstock, Sandeep was in the beginning stages of an astonishing transformation of the test enigneering department. The department had a large series of tests that took an hour or more to run, and was suffering with very inconsistent test environments and testing processes between teams. Despite the department being full of extremely talented people it was suffering under a reputation as a bottleneck. That all changed once Sandeep took control, he instituted operational excellence programs to force test automation and procedures to constantly be analyzed and improved. He also oversaw the building of automation reporting tools that allowed teams to track historical performance of tests and identify issues, and gaps in coverage. These gave teams the information to see where improvement was most needed. Additionally, he empowered individuals to come up with solutions to problems, and inspired the department of over 30 engineers across numerous timezones and countries to come together and share ideas and created a real sense of pride in the quality of Shutterstock products. By the time he was promoted and given more responsibility over more than just test engineering it was a completely different world. Slow cumbersome test suites now ran faster with better results. Testing efforts were rebalanced to include thorough API tests and integration tests to add coverage and confidence. And implementation of technology and tools such as SonarQube, Docker and Drone were being rolled out across the company. In addition to all of this entire test suites were migrated to use Node to allow greater collaberation between developers and test engineers. To say what he accomplished for Shutterstock was amazing would be an understatement. I learned a great deal working under him, and am confident that if I succeed in my career from this point on it will be in no small part because of my time spent at Shutterstock working with Sandeep.
