About

Tathagat is an accomplished C-level software executive, entrepreneur, and established thought leader with over thirty years of progressive experience in global strategic, leadership, product, and technical roles with Fortune 1-500 firms and Silicon Valley unicorns across the USA, Europe, China, and India. He has built multiple "1.0" software products with revenues exceeding billions of dollars, built four GCCs in hi-tech product development ground-up, scaled P/L operations to over 10,000+ sizes, and led global teams in hi-tech domains, including retail, e-commerce, fintech, consumer internet, network management, datacom, consumer electronics, healthcare, and telecom.

His research identifies antecedents, moderators, and consequents of GenAI adoption for a firm and proposes a grounded theory-based framework. His research bridges the critical gaps between theory and practice, and makes several key theoretical contributions to adopting cognitive technologies such as GenAI, which can also be extended to dynamic and evolving general-purpose technologies.

Tathagat is an award-winning thought leader. He was recognized as LinkedIn Top Voice 2024. He has written over 1,000 articles and blogs and delivered over 750+ keynotes and talks on agile and lean product development, design thinking, leadership, culture, program management, business ethics, creativity, and innovation at conferences, corporates, and colleges. He has authored two books: "Agile Product Development" (Apress, 2015) and "Agile Software Development" (Kindle, 2017), and is currently working on his next book on "Cognitive Chasms" based on his doctoral research. He has delivered lectures at ISB, IIMB, IIMU, IIFT, etc., and taught courses at UCLA's PGPx program, Upgrad, Symbiosis, St. Josephs and the Institute of Product Leadership, among others.

Since the stakes are high and industry is moving very fast, a reactive ivory tower approach cannot succeed. In addition to top-down policy recommendations, the hive mind of the industry must be leveraged to support conversations for grassroots involvement and actions. David Weinberger said it most aptly: the smartest person in the room is now the room.

With this context in mind, about 30 product companies and individuals joined hands together to form iSPIRT – the Indian Software Product Industry Roundtable in early 2013.

Project management process is a powerful transformational management methodology that has undeniably shown to help individuals and organisations successfully plan and accomplish many difficult objectives and projects around the world. It has grown, matured and spread around the world to include a robust set of theories, principles, methodologies, practices, activities, professionals and organisations. Adoption of systematic project management practices in key sectors, such as automobile, defense, energy, infrastructure, IT-ITES and infrastructure not only help attain project objectives but also provide a scope of national savings by lowering project execution costs.

However, with the ongoing success, popularity and acceptability of project management across different domains, studies reveal that only one third of an organization’s important projects deliver the expected results. The remaining projects unfortunately miss their strategic objectives, creating enormous financial costs for the companies involved.

The impacts of these failures highlight the numerous opportunities for performance improvement, and it becomes clear that a more widespread, effective use of project management is needed. The path forward starts with PMI India’s Excellence Enablers Forum.

As India forges ahead into a project driven work culture and economy, we are increasingly feeling the need for Excellence Enablers. By this we mean thought leaders and visionary organizations that can function as catalysts and facilitate a remarkable change for the better.

Discover what it takes to develop products that blow your users away—and take market share from your competitors. This book will explain how the principles behind agile product development help designers, developers, architects, and product managers create awesome products; and how to look beyond a shiny user interface to build a great product. Most importantly, this book will give you a shared framework for your product development team to collaborate effectively.

Product development involves several key activities—including ideation, discovery, design, development, and delivery—and yet too many companies and innovators focus on just a few of them much to the detriment of the product’s success in the marketplace. As a result we still continue to see high failure rates in new product development, be it inside organizations or startups. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, these failures are largely avoidable.

In the last fifteen years, advances in agile software development, lean product development, human-centered design, design thinking, lean startups and product delivery have helped improve individual aspects of product development. However, not enough guidance has been available to integrate them in the context of the product development life cycle.

Organized in the way an idea germinates, sprouts, and grows, the book synthesizes the body of knowledge in a pragmatic way that is more natural to the entire product creation process rather than from individual practices that constitute it.
