ISPMA establishes software product management as a discipline in both academia and industry, and disseminates and maintains a Curriculum and a Certifiable Body of Knowledge (SPMBOK).

The SPMBOK is documented in syllabi that are the basis for training courses and certification exams. The syllabi are available for free for all members. Training courses can be offered by commercial training providers and universities. Certification exams are conducted by independent certification agencies that issue the certificates on behalf of ISPMA.

Project management process is a powerful transformational management methodology that has undeniably shown to help individuals and organisations successfully plan and accomplish many difficult objectives and projects around the world. It has grown, matured and spread around the world to include a robust set of theories, principles, methodologies, practices, activities, professionals and organisations. Adoption of systematic project management practices in key sectors, such as automobile, defense, energy, infrastructure, IT-ITES and infrastructure not only help attain project objectives but also provide a scope of national savings by lowering project execution costs.

However, with the ongoing success, popularity and acceptability of project management across different domains, studies reveal that only one third of an organization’s important projects deliver the expected results. The remaining projects unfortunately miss their strategic objectives, creating enormous financial costs for the companies involved.

The impacts of these failures highlight the numerous opportunities for performance improvement, and it becomes clear that a more widespread, effective use of project management is needed. The path forward starts with PMI India’s Excellence Enablers Forum.

As stage producer, I was responsible to plan the track around agile product management methods and practices, get reviewers to join the team and help improve submission proposals so that best papers could be presented at the conference. I was ably assisted by my co-producer Annu Augustine on this effort.

As the inaugural Chair for IEEE TMC Bangalore chapter, planned and executed various expert lecture programs and also started a quarterly newsletter.

Over the years the strength of the section has grown steadily and currently the Section membership stands more than 8600. This membership is spread across various sectors and is a nice blend of Industry, Academia and Research organizations. Section Conducted 800+ Technical Activities in the year 2017, 900+ Technical Activities in the year 2018, 1000+ Technical Activities in the year 2019, with the help of Student branches and society chapters. IEEE Bangalore Section won the prestigious MGA Outstanding Large Section Award (2013 & 2019) and R10 Distinguished Large Section Award for the year 2013.

Bangalore Section has one Subsection (Mangalore), 22 Society Chapters (very few sections across the globe have these many), and 3 affinity groups (Young Professional, Women in Engineering and Life Member). The Chapters carry out focused activities in their respective areas by conducting technical talks under DLT, Seminars, Tutorials, workshops, conferences etc. Apart from Chapters two affinity groups viz. Young Professionals and Women In Engineering (WIE) also carry out related activities. IEEE Bangalore and IEEE Princeton and Central New Jersey Sections have signed an MoU as sister sections.
